Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda Begin Their Second Film With Mohit Suri After Saiyaara

Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda have begun shooting their second film together, reuniting with director Mohit Suri for an untitled romantic drama backed by Yash Raj Films (YRF). Filming began in Mumbai in October 2026 and is expected to move to Goa in November, with a worldwide theatrical release planned for 2027. The project also reunites producer Akshaye Widhani and cinematographer Anil Mehta, who worked on the trio’s 2025 hit Saiyaara. The makers have yet to announce an official title.

The reunion follows the success of Saiyaara, which turned two newcomers into breakout stars. The 2025 romantic musical became a major box-office hit, with trade tracker Sacnilk estimating its worldwide gross at ₹570.33 crore, including ₹398.83 crore from India. YRF puts the worldwide gross at approximately ₹580 crore. Although the figures vary by tracker, Saiyaara emerged as one of Indian cinema’s biggest romantic hits and gave Panday and Padda a breakthrough rarely experienced by debut performers.

The trio is returning with a different story rather than revisiting the characters audiences encountered in Saiyaara. The upcoming film is a standalone project, not a sequel.

The new film has been described as a mature, unconventional and quirky romance, with action adding another dimension to Suri’s blend of intense emotions and music. Plot details remain under wraps, so the balance between romance and action is not yet clear. The combination of these elements suggests that the filmmaker is looking to establish a distinct identity for the project rather than simply repeat Saiyaara’s formula.

YRF announced the reunion in April, describing the project as an intense romance shaped by storytelling and memorable melodies. Suri said returning with the same team felt like coming home, while also bringing renewed creative hunger. The film gives him another opportunity to work with the same young leads while developing a new cinematic world.

The success of Saiyaara renewed attention to the decision to cast fresh faces at a time when many filmmakers were leaning towards large-scale action films and established stars. Suri has spoken about the doubts surrounding whether anyone would finance a young love story led by newcomers. He credited Aditya Chopra and YRF with backing the idea that the characters needed actors who felt their age rather than familiar faces.

That decision shaped the film’s identity. Panday and Padda introduced themselves to audiences through the story, music and their on-screen chemistry rather than through established star images. Their performances and the film’s reception helped establish them as emerging names in Hindi cinema.

Despite online speculation and earlier reports suggesting that Satranga was being considered as a working title, the film has never been officially announced under that name. YRF continues to describe the project as untitled, and no final title has been confirmed.

Production began at YRF Studios in Mumbai in October, according to trade reports, with Goa expected to host a subsequent schedule. The team is working towards a 2027 theatrical release, although no date has been revealed. Panday is also set to appear in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Beparwah, while Padda has Shakti Shalini among her upcoming projects.

The principal draw for the new film remains the reunion. Saiyaara demonstrated that a romance led by newcomers could connect with audiences on a substantial scale. The second film will need to establish its own identity, but Suri, Panday and Padda now have another opportunity to create a love story for contemporary audiences.
