Alia Bhatt’s Alpha Reportedly Moves Up Release Date for a Clear Box Office Run

Alia Bhatt's Alpha Reportedly Moves Up Release Date

Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s upcoming spy thriller Alpha may be arriving in theaters a week earlier than previously expected. The highly anticipated YRF Spy Universe film has already seen multiple release-date changes over the course of its development, and fresh reports now suggest that the movie could move from its announced July 10, 2026 release date to July 3, 2026.

Yash Raj Films had officially confirmed Alpha for a July 10, 2026 release. However, according to reports from Times Entertainment, the studio has reportedly locked July 3 as the film’s new release date, although an official announcement is still awaited.

The reported move appears to be linked to changes in the broader release calendar. Sources suggest that Dhamaal 4 has shifted from July 3 to July 17, creating an open release window at the domestic box office. With no major Hindi release currently occupying that weekend, Alpha is reportedly positioned to take advantage of the available slot.

The revised date could also help the film avoid direct competition with Disney’s live-action Moana, which is scheduled to release on July 10. If the reports prove accurate, Alpha would arrive a week earlier than planned, potentially giving it additional breathing room at the domestic box office before facing new competition.

The project has already undergone several scheduling changes. Initially expected to release in 2025, the film was later moved to April 2026 before being shifted to July 10, 2026. A move to July 3 would mark the latest release-date adjustment connected to the project.

Alpha is the first female-led film in the YRF Spy Universe and stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in the lead roles. The project also marks a notable moment for the franchise, placing female characters at the center of one of Bollywood’s biggest action universes. The movie is widely described as an action thriller and is expected to explore the origins of Alia Bhatt’s character. The story has been described as a darker and grittier chapter within the spy universe, focusing on a female operative pushed to her limits while confronting a dangerous adversary.

Unlike some of the earlier entries in the YRF Spy Universe, which largely centered on intelligence operations and cross-border missions, Alpha is expected to place greater emphasis on character origins and the personal journey of its lead protagonist.

While the film places women at the forefront of the franchise, it is also expected to maintain connections with the larger YRF Spy Universe. Reports and industry speculation have frequently linked the project to appearances from established characters from previous films, though no official confirmations have been made by the studio.

The film is directed by Shiv Rawail, best known for directing Netflix’s acclaimed series The Railway Men. Alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the cast includes Bobby Deol in a key antagonist role and Anil Kapoor in a pivotal part.

Interest in Alpha has remained high since its announcement, partly because it represents a new direction for the YRF Spy Universe. Speaking to Femina India earlier this year, Alia Bhatt explained what attracted her to the project.

“I think what made me say ‘yes’ was number one, its genre that I am betting on, and one that has not been accepted in the past, in India at least. So I wanted to understand why has it not been accepted wholeheartedly in the past? There have been female action characters within films driven by men, but there’s never been a story that was told where the protagonist is the female character, and where the storytelling is engaging you to the point where it doesn’t matter what the gender is.”

Yash Raj Films has yet to officially confirm the reported release-date change. If the move is finalized, Alpha could gain a valuable early-July release corridor as it prepares to become the first female-led entry in the studio’s expanding spy universe.
