Chinese animation continues to strengthen its international presence as Pearl Studio’s upcoming animated comedy All Wishes Come True! prepares for a wide theatrical rollout across multiple overseas markets following its debut in China. Produced by the studio behind Kung Fu Panda 3, Abominable, and the Oscar-nominated Over the Moon, the film is set to reach audiences in North America, Europe, and Oceania beginning in August.
All Wishes Come True! will first open in China on July 24 before launching internationally less than three weeks later. The rollout begins in Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea on August 13, followed by the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Netherlands on August 14. The film will then expand to Belgium and Luxembourg on September 4, marking one of Pearl Studio’s broadest overseas releases for an original animated feature.
Produced by Pearl Studio alongside CMC Pictures, the film is written and directed by Mu Zhengyang and produced by Cao Linlin. Inspired by the classic Chinese legend of The Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, the story reimagines the mythology as a fantasy-comedy adventure. Rather than following the traditional tale, the film centres on eight ordinary people who disguise themselves as the legendary immortals in an attempt to infiltrate a celestial treasure vault, only to find themselves caught in a much larger conflict involving gods, immortals, and the fate of both the mortal and divine worlds.
The project brings together several experienced creative talents from the Chinese film industry. Action design is led by Su Hang, a Hong Kong Film Award winner known for The Shadow’s Edge, while Chen Hao, who previously worked as a voice director on Ne Zha, joins the production in the same role.
For Pearl Studio, All Wishes Come True! represents another step in the company’s strategy of producing original animated features rooted in Chinese culture while appealing to global family audiences. The Shanghai-based studio has steadily built an international reputation through collaborations such as Kung Fu Panda 3 and original productions including Abominable and Over the Moon, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
The international rollout also reflects the growing ambitions of CMC Pictures, which has become one of the leading distributors of Chinese films worldwide. Since 2016, the company has released around 120 Chinese films internationally across more than 100 countries and over 500 cities, with titles including Ne Zha, The Wandering Earth, Detective Chinatown, Ip Man 4, and A Writer’s Odyssey.
The release arrives at a time when Chinese animation is enjoying unprecedented global momentum. Following the historic success of Ne Zha 2, which became one of the highest-grossing animated films ever, studios are increasingly investing in original stories inspired by Chinese mythology and folklore while pursuing wider theatrical releases outside their home market.
All Wishes Come True! appears to be the latest example of that strategy. By combining traditional Chinese mythology with contemporary family entertainment and a coordinated international release, Pearl Studio is positioning the film to reach audiences well beyond China, further underscoring the growing global ambitions of the country’s animation industry.
