This tribute celebrates her remarkable career, including her iconic roles in Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Sabrina.
Audrey Hepburn’s Connection to London
The blue plaque will be placed in Mayfair, where she first gained recognition for her talent. Hepburn, born in Belgium, spent part of her early life in England, where she attended boarding school before launching her acting career. Her breakthrough role as Princess Anne in Roman Holiday (1953) earned her an Academy Award and cemented her status as a Hollywood icon.
Other Cultural Icons Receiving Blue Plaques
The English Heritage blue plaque scheme, which dates back to 1866, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to society. Alongside Hepburn, Marc Bolan, the lead singer of T. Rex, will also be honored with a plaque at one of his former residences in west London. Other honorees include novelist Barbara Pym, artist Graham Sutherland, ballerina Alicia Markova, and Jamaican writer Una Marson.
According to English Heritage’s curatorial director, Matt Thompson, “2025 marks an exciting year for the Blue Plaques Scheme as we honor these outstanding individuals who transformed the cultural fabric of London.”
