Marvel Studios stole the spotlight at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 on Saturday with an action-packed Hall H presentation led by the first exclusive footage from Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige surprised thousands of fans by debuting the trailer exclusively for attendees inside Hall H, offering the first substantial look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next crossover event. The presentation also featured major announcements, including Ryan Gosling’s official casting as Ghost Rider, the reveal of Black Panther 3, and a star-studded appearance by the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, making Marvel’s showcase the convention’s biggest attraction.
The exclusive trailer immediately established Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., as the MCU’s next formidable villain. The footage opens with Victor Von Doom seated on a throne as Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) reflects on the man he once was. She describes Victor as “the smartest guy in the room,” revealing that everything he loved was taken from him and hinting at a complicated history between Doom and the Fantastic Four long before the events of the film.
The emotional narration gives way to scenes of widespread destruction, including a devastated New York City lying in ruins. Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) questions whether Doom is responsible for the catastrophe, while Sue’s narration suggests that the conflict is deeply personal rather than simply another battle to save the world. The footage positions Victor not merely as a multiversal conqueror but as a tragic figure whose past ties to Marvel’s First Family could shape the emotional core of the story.
One of the trailer’s most talked-about moments arrives when Doom confronts Thor (Chris Hemsworth). In a striking display of power, Doom effortlessly catches Mjolnir before casting the enchanted hammer aside and using his mystical abilities to overpower the God of Thunder. The sequence concludes with Doom summoning an army of towering Sentinel robots, confirming that the iconic mutant-hunting machines will play a significant role in the film and strengthening the connection between the MCU and the legacy of Fox’s X-Men universe.
Another memorable line from the footage sees Doom declaring, “All of you have lived stolen lives.” While Marvel offered no further explanation, the dialogue strongly points toward themes of alternate realities, fractured timelines and multiversal identity that have gradually been building throughout the Multiverse Saga.
The trailer also confirmed the enormous scale of Avengers: Doomsday, featuring quick glimpses of heroes from across the Marvel universe. Alongside Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four, the footage included appearances by Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Panther (Letitia Wright), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Thor. Following the trailer debut, Feige welcomed directors Joe and Anthony Russo to the stage before introducing much of the film’s cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Hayley Atwell, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, Tenoch Huerta, Danny Ramirez and Kelsey Grammer, drawing one of the loudest ovations of the convention.
Marvel’s presentation didn’t stop there. Feige officially confirmed long-running speculation by announcing that Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider in a standalone film directed by Shawn Levy, scheduled for release in 2028. The reveal immediately became one of the convention’s biggest surprises and expands Marvel’s plans beyond its current Multiverse Saga slate.
Another major announcement followed when Ryan Coogler made a surprise appearance to officially unveil Black Panther 3. The filmmaker confirmed that the sequel will arrive in theatres on December 15, 2028, while also revealing that David Jonsson has been cast as the grown son of T’Challa, continuing the Wakandan legacy following the death of Chadwick Boseman.
Beyond Marvel, Saturday’s Comic-Con schedule remained packed with high-profile presentations. Apple TV+ showcased upcoming projects including Matchbox The Movie, Dark Matter Season 2 and Silo Season 3, while Paramount celebrated Star Trek’s 60th anniversary alongside a panel for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4. Prime Video brought previews from Reacher and its spin-off Neagley, while filmmaker Mike Flanagan debuted never-before-seen footage from his television adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie. Animation fans also packed Ballroom 20 for panels featuring The Simpsons, Futurama, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy and American Dad.
Despite the wide range of presentations throughout the day, Marvel remained the undeniable centre of attention. The first footage from Avengers: Doomsday not only established Doctor Doom as the MCU’s next defining antagonist but also showcased the unprecedented scale of the film’s crossover ambitions, bringing together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and X-Men under one story.
