‘Awarapan 2’ Advance Booking Crosses ₹4 Crore, Opens 4X Ahead of ‘Batwara 1947’

‘Awarapan 2’ Advance Booking Crosses ₹4 Crore Ahead of Release

With less than a day to go before its August 14 release, Awarapan 2 has emerged as the clear advance-booking leader of this week’s Bollywood box-office clash. The Emraan Hashmi-led sequel has recorded ₹4.16 crore in Day 1 advance gross, excluding blocked seats, with 1,33,722 tickets sold across 7,162 shows.

The film is significantly ahead of Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947, which has recorded ₹99.06 lakh in advance gross from 35,727 tickets across 7,013 shows. The two films have almost identical show counts, making the difference in ticket sales particularly significant.

Awarapan 2 has sold nearly 3.7 times as many tickets as Batwara 1947, while its gross advance booking is approximately 4.2 times higher. The average ticket price is also broadly similar, at ₹245 for Awarapan 2 and ₹249 for Batwara 1947. The difference is therefore primarily being driven by the substantially higher number of tickets sold by Awarapan 2.

When blocked seats are included, Awarapan 2‘s advance gross rises to ₹6.65 crore, compared with ₹2.94 crore for Batwara 1947. For a cleaner trade comparison, however, the figures excluding blocked seats provide the more useful measure.

The latest figure also represents a significant acceleration from the earlier tracking. Awarapan 2 had previously been reported at ₹3.34 crore gross in advance booking, excluding blocked seats, after a 147% jump in the preceding 24-hour period. The latest tracking puts the advance gross at ₹4.16 crore, while the most recent 24-hour surge has been reported at 171.34%.

The film had already moved past the final pre-sales of Welcome to the Jungle, which stood at ₹3.1 crore, and Bhooth Bangla, which had closed its opening-day advance booking at ₹3.32 crore in the earlier tracking.

The numbers also establish a clear early advantage for Awarapan 2 in the Independence Day weekend clash. Earlier booking data had already shown the film comfortably ahead of Batwara 1947, and the latest figures have widened that gap further.

Delhi continues to be one of the strongest markets for Awarapan 2, while Maharashtra and the Mumbai metropolitan region are also contributing significantly to the advance sales. Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal and Telangana are among the other markets showing activity in the booking data.

The strong performance in Delhi and North India is particularly relevant for Emraan Hashmi, who has historically enjoyed a strong audience base in the region. The current advance-booking trajectory has consequently raised expectations for what could become his biggest opening as a solo lead.

Earlier trade projections placed the film’s opening-day potential at ₹12–15 crore net, which would make it Hashmi’s biggest solo opening if achieved. The latest ₹4.16 crore advance gross strengthens the case for a substantial opening, although the final number will depend on additional pre-sales, walk-in audiences and the response after the first shows.

The advance booking is particularly notable when compared with the theatrical performance of the original Awarapan. The 2007 film developed a cult following over time despite its relatively modest theatrical performance, with a lifetime domestic gross of around ₹10 crore. Awarapan 2 is now positioned to potentially open at more than twice the original film’s entire domestic lifetime gross.

A ₹75 crore-plus net opening weekend has been suggested as a potential target if the sequel receives strong word of mouth. That figure, however, should be treated as a projection rather than an established trade expectation based solely on the current advance booking.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 brings Emraan Hashmi back to the dark, intense action territory associated with the 2007 original. Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi also star in the sequel. The return of the Awarapan title brings a strong nostalgia factor for Hashmi’s established audience, while the trailer’s response has also contributed to the buildup ahead of release.

For now, the advance-booking picture is clear: with 1.33 lakh tickets already sold, Awarapan 2 is entering August 14 with a substantial lead over Batwara 1947. The next test will be whether that pre-release momentum converts into strong occupancy and sustained business once the film opens in theatres.
