Bhooth Bangla Tops Box Office With ₹58 Cr Opening, Dhurandhar 2 Enters Final Phase

Bhooth Bangla opens at ₹58 crore, ending Dhurandhar 2’s 5-week dominance as the Hindi blockbuster crosses ₹1115 crore in India.

The Indian box office witnessed a significant shift over the weekend as Bhooth Bangla stormed to the top spot, officially ending the long-standing dominance of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge after nearly five weeks at No.1. While the change at the top signals a new phase in the theatrical cycle, the broader picture reflects a market balancing between a new entrant finding momentum and a historic blockbuster settling into its final leg.

Leading the charge, Bhooth Bangla delivered a strong opening weekend, collecting ₹58 crore net. The film began with ₹12.25 crore on Friday after paid previews, followed by a solid jump to ₹19 crore on Saturday and an even stronger ₹23 crore on Sunday. The upward trend is clearly reflected in occupancy, which grew from 19% on Friday to 36% by Sunday, indicating rising audience interest over the weekend. For Akshay Kumar, this marks one of the more promising openings in recent years, especially after a mixed run at the box office. Backed by its comedy-horror tone and family-friendly appeal, the film has managed to attract footfall, but its real test will begin with weekday holds. Whether it can sustain the weekend momentum or drop sharply will determine its long-term success.

In contrast, Dhurandhar 2 has now clearly entered its late-stage run. In its fifth weekend, the film collected ₹2.70 crore on Friday, ₹4.65 crore on Saturday, and ₹5.20 crore on Sunday, taking its weekend total to ₹12.55 crore. The film’s overall India net now stands at a staggering ₹1115.73 crore, reinforcing its position as the biggest Hindi film ever. However, the decline in numbers reflects a natural slowdown after an unprecedented run. Despite losing the top spot, the film continues to contribute steady revenue, showcasing the strength of its long-tail performance even in the fifth week.

Beyond the top two, regional cinema continues to provide stability to the market. In Tamil Nadu, Love Insurance Kompany maintained a steady second weekend, collecting ₹0.96 crore on Friday, ₹1.68 crore on Saturday, and ₹1.70 crore on Sunday, for a weekend total of ₹4.34 crore. With an overall tally of ₹37.56 crore, the film is emerging as a stable performer driven by consistent audience turnout rather than big spikes.

Similarly, in the Telugu market, Dacoit continues its controlled run. The film added ₹0.90 crore, ₹1.25 crore, and ₹1.46 crore over the weekend, taking its total to ₹3.61 crore for the frame and ₹32 crore overall. Its steady trajectory reflects a dependable mid-tier performance, sustained by regional appeal and consistent footfall.

Malayalam cinema, meanwhile, presents a mixed picture. Pallichattambi opened with a strong ₹2.90 crore on its first day but witnessed a drop in the following days before recovering slightly over the weekend, taking its five-day total to ₹8.67 crore. The trend suggests initial curiosity but a need for stronger word-of-mouth to sustain growth. On the other hand, Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam is showing signs of a slow-burn success. In its second weekend, the film collected ₹3.97 crore, with occupancy rising steadily from 46% to 62%, indicating growing audience acceptance.

What stands out most from this weekend is the transition underway in the Indian box office. Bhooth Bangla has taken over the top spot with a promising start, but its trajectory will be defined by how it performs through the weekdays. At the same time, Dhurandhar 2 is moving into the final phase of its theatrical run after rewriting box office history, continuing to add to its massive total even as its pace slows.

The coexistence of these two narratives—one film beginning its journey and another nearing its conclusion—highlights the evolving dynamics of the market. Add to this the steady presence of regional films across Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam industries, and the result is a more balanced box office ecosystem.

As the week progresses, all eyes will be on whether Bhooth Bangla can maintain its momentum and truly establish itself as the next big theatrical success. For now, the Indian box office has clearly entered a new chapter—one where dominance is being challenged, and the field is once again open for competition.
