A brand new trailer has arrived for Coyote vs. Acme, the long awaited Looney Tunes comedy that blends live-action with animation. The film is set to release in theatres on August 28, and the new trailer gives fans their clearest look yet at the story before it gets a public screening at Comic-Con on July 25.
The film follows Wile E. Coyote, who has spent years failing to catch Road Runner using products from the Acme Corporation that never seem to work properly. After seeing a TV ad from a struggling lawyer named Kevin Krank, played by Will Forte, Coyote decides he has had enough and takes Acme to court over its faulty products. This sets up a courtroom battle between Coyote and Acme’s lead lawyer, played by John Cena, the film a David versus Goliath structure with a cartoon twist.
Along with Coyote and Road Runner, the trailer also features several other classic Looney Tunes characters, including Porky Pig, Bugs Bunny, and Tweetie Pie. Foghorn Leghorn also appears in the trailer as an exaggerated Southern lawyer representing Acme, adding a fun courtroom twist to the classic character. Fans can expect several more cameos from Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies characters throughout the film.
Besides Will Forte and John Cena, the human cast for Coyote vs. Acme includes Lana Condor, Tone Bell, P.J. Bryne, Martha Kelly and Luis Guzman, who play various supporting roles in the story. Luis Guzmán plays the judge overseeing the courtroom trial between Coyote and Acme, while longtime Looney Tunes voice actor Eric Bauza voices several of the classic characters appearing throughout the film.
Coyote vs. Acme is directed by Dave Green. The film’s screenplay is written by Samy Burch, based on a story credited to Burch along with James Gunn and Jeremy Slater. James Gunn is also one of the producers on the project, alongside Chris DeFaria. Dave Green previously directed Earth to Echo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows before taking on this project. The film itself is based on Ian Frazier’s 1990 New Yorker article “Coyote v. Acme”, which imagined Wile E. Coyote suing the Acme Corporation, and the movie marks the first time this satirical premise has been adapted into a full feature film.
Coyote vs. Acme has had an usually rocky journey to theatres. The completed film was originally shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery, after CEO Davi Zaslav decided to write it off for tax purposes instead of releasing it, a decision that also affected the completed film Batgirl around the same time. The move led to a strong backlash from fans and industry voices, and David Zaslav eventually allowed the filmmaker to look for another studio to release it. In March 2025, Ketchup Entertainment acquired the rights to the film, later showing early footage at Comic-Con in 2025 and giving an industry only preview at CinemaCon earlier this year. The new trailer marks the first full public look at the film since Ketchup stepped in to save it.
After years of uncertainty and a very public near cancellation, Coyote vs. Acme finally seems set to reach audiences, and the response to its new trailer suggests fans are excited to see Wile E. Coyote get his long-awaited day in court. The film also carries extra weight for its director, who has previously spoken about how much the shelving decision affected him and the crew, given how much care went into honoring the original Looney Tunes characters. With the film now finally reaching theatres years after it was completed, its journey has become almost as talked about as the story it tells on screen.
