Crawl 2 Adds Five Actors as New York Faces a Deadly Alligator Invasion

Crawl 2 cast announcement featuring Sarah Niles, Ray Panthaki, Richard Brake, Flula Borg and Charley Palmer Rothwell

Crawl 2 is expanding its cast, with Sarah Niles, Ray Panthaki, Richard Brake, Charley Palmer Rothwell and Flula Borg joining the upcoming horror sequel from Paramount Pictures. The five actors join previously announced leads Mason Gooding and Emily Rudd in the film, which shifts the franchise’s alligator terror to New York City. Directed by Alexandre Aja, the sequel is scheduled to arrive in theatres on July 16, 2027. A hurricane sets the stage for a dangerous encounter between the city’s residents and alligators moving through flooded streets and sewers.

The latest casting additions bring together performers with experience across film and television. Niles, known for her roles in Ted Lasso and F1, joins Panthaki, whose film credits include 28 Days Later. Brake, who appeared in Barbarian and 31, is also part of the ensemble, alongside Palmer Rothwell, known for Play or Die, and Borg, who appeared in The Suicide Squad.

The actors’ characters have not yet been revealed, leaving their individual roles in the story unclear. With five new performers joining the previously announced leads, the sequel is assembling a larger ensemble for its next survival-horror story. Paramount Pictures has yet to release a full plot synopsis or disclose further details about the characters.

Gooding and Rudd were announced earlier as the film’s leads. The two actors previously worked together in the 2022 science-fiction romantic comedy Moonshot, giving them an existing screen partnership ahead of their latest collaboration. Gooding is known for the Scream franchise, while Rudd has gained wider recognition through the series One Piece. Their characters’ specific roles in Crawl 2 remain undisclosed, and it is not yet clear how they become caught in the unfolding disaster.

The sequel’s move to New York City marks a significant change of setting from the original Crawl, released in 2019. That film followed a young woman and her father trapped inside a Florida home during a powerful hurricane. As floodwaters rose, alligators entered their surroundings, turning an already dangerous situation into a fight for survival.

Crawl 2 moves the threat into a densely populated urban environment, where flooding is expected to bring alligators into streets and sewers. Rather than concentrating the action around a single isolated house, the new setting expands the potential scale of the danger. Streets, underground passages and other parts of the city could become obstacles as residents attempt to escape the rising water and the animals moving through it.

The change in location also gives Aja an opportunity to revisit the survival-horror premise on a broader scale without simply repeating the confined setting of the first film. The central threat remains rooted in the combination of extreme weather, rising floodwater and dangerous wildlife, but the urban backdrop introduces a different environment for the characters to navigate.

Aja returns as director and co-writer, reuniting with producers Sam Raimi and Craig Flores, who were also involved in the first film. Aja’s horror credits include The Hills Have Eyes and Piranha 3D. He shares screenplay credit on the sequel with Jason Harry Pagan, Andrew Deutschman and Gregory Levasseur.

The creative team has a commercial foundation to build on. The original Crawl earned more than $91 million worldwide against a reported production budget of less than $14 million, making it a profitable theatrical release for Paramount Pictures. Its box-office performance established a strong commercial case for another instalment built around the same creature threat.

The sequel now has the opportunity to bring audiences back to the franchise while introducing a new setting and an expanded cast. The return of Aja, Raimi and Flores also maintains continuity with the filmmaking team behind the original, even as the story moves beyond the Florida home that defined the first film.

With production underway in Hungary, Crawl 2 is moving towards its scheduled theatrical release on July 16, 2027. Further details about the plot, the newly announced characters and the full cast are yet to be disclosed.

The central premise, however, remains clear: a hurricane, rising floodwater and alligators in a city where reaching higher ground may not be enough. By taking the franchise beyond a single Florida home and into New York City, Crawl 2 sets up a new survival challenge while retaining the creature threat that helped make its predecessor a box-office success.
