Deadlocked, the upcoming action film from Amazon MGM Studios starring Jamie Foxx, has added Marko Zaror and Tyrik Johnson to its cast. Character details for both actors are being kept under wraps for now.
The film follows a grieving former Marine serving jury duty who is pulled back into action after the trial he is sitting on, described as “the trial of the century,” turns into a deadly hostage situation when the defendant’s daughter seizes the courthouse in an attempt to free her father.
Marko Zaror and Tyrik Johnson join a cast already led by Jamie Foxx, alongside Sasha Calle, KiKi Layne and Luke Hemsworth. None of the actors’ specific roles have been disclosed yet, though some outlets have speculated that Zaror, given his background playing intimidating antagonists, could be a fit for the role of the father at the center of the hostage plot. However, this remains unconfirmed.
Sasha Calle, who joined the project back in August, is known for her role in the recent Netflix hit The Rip, as well as On Swift Horses. KiKi Layne is best known for her role in The Old Guard, while Luke Hemsworth has built a strong following for his work on HBO’s Westworld.
Marko Zaror is a Chilean actor and martial artist best known for playing Chidi in John Wick: Chapter 4, alongside other action credits including The Killer’s Game and Fight or Flight. He previously worked with director Robert Rodriguez on Machete Kills and is set to reunite with him on an upcoming project. Zaror is also set to star in and executive produce Brutal Justice, which will reunite him with John Wick co-star Scott Adkins and Chilean director Ernesto Díaz Espinoza, following their earlier collaboration on Diablo.
Tyrik Johnson recently filmed Dedicated to Morris Burke alongside Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Kate McKinnon, and is one of the leads in the upcoming film The Pig Path. He was also recently nominated for the YoungStars Award at the BET Awards.
Deadlocked is directed by Nikhil Bhat, who previously helmed the 2023 action film Kill. The screenplay is written by Eric Scott Anderson and Matt Takejiro Bosack from an original idea. The film is being made for streaming on Prime Video, produced by Fred Berger for Range, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Dave Caplan for C2 and Jamie Foxx through his Foxxhole Productions banner. AJ Bourscheid, Liz Destro, Paul Currie and Corinne Foxx are serving as executive producers.
The film was first announced by Amazon MGM Studios in August and is currently in the pre-production stage.
With Marko Zaror and Tyrik Johnson now added to a cast already featuring Foxx, Calle, Layne and Hemsworth, Deadlocked continues building out its ensemble as the project moves toward production. No release date has been announced yet.
