Netflix has officially moved forward with Extraction 3, with Chris Hemsworth and Idris Elba set to return as part of the cast. The streaming platform confirmed that director Sam Hargrave will return to helm the new film, having previously directed both Extraction (2020) and Extraction 2 (2023).
The project will be written by David Weil, marking a continuation of the franchise’s evolving creative team. Production is expected to begin in 2026, with the film entering the next stage of development following the strong performance of its predecessors on the platform.
Leading the cast, Chris Hemsworth is set to reprise his role as Tyler Rake, the black-ops mercenary at the center of the series. He will be joined once again by Golshifteh Farahani, who returns as Nik Khan, a key ally within the narrative. Idris Elba is also expected to reprise his role following his introduction in the previous installment, further expanding the film’s character lineup.
The Extraction franchise, produced by AGBO, the banner led by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, has been a major component of Netflix’s action slate since the release of the first film in 2020. Both installments have ranked among the platform’s most-watched titles, contributing to Netflix’s ongoing strategy of developing large-scale, franchise-driven content for global audiences.
The decision to move ahead with a third film reflects Netflix’s continued focus on building long-term intellectual properties within its original programming. In addition to the main film series, the Extraction universe is also being expanded through additional projects, including spin-offs and related content, as the streamer looks to extend the franchise’s reach beyond its core storyline.
While specific plot details for Extraction 3 have not yet been disclosed, the continuation of the core creative team and returning cast suggests a direct progression from the events of Extraction 2. The franchise has been characterized by its high-intensity action sequences, global settings, and a central narrative focused on covert operations and personal stakes, elements that are expected to remain central in the upcoming installment.
Filming is anticipated to take place across multiple international locations, including parts of Europe and Australia, consistent with the franchise’s established production scale and global scope.
With Extraction 3 now officially in development, Netflix continues to reinforce its commitment to action-driven franchises as a key pillar of its content strategy. The return of its principal cast and creative team positions the film as a continuation of a proven formula, as the platform builds toward another major release within its expanding action portfolio.
