Mirzapur: The Movie Advance Booking Crosses ₹6 Crore, Sells Over 1.4 Lakh Tickets

Mirzapur: The Movie is heading into its theatrical release with strong advance-booking momentum. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film had sold around 1.4 lakh tickets and crossed ₹6.20 crore in advance bookings, including blocked seats, just a day ahead of its September 4 release. Net advance collections stood at nearly ₹4 crore.

The film is a prequel set in 2018 and runs for an unusually long 197 minutes. It brings back the franchise’s original trio: Pankaj Tripathi as Akhandanand “Kaleen Bhaiya” Tripathi, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, and Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi. Notably, the character of Bablu Pandit, previously played by Vikrant Massey in the series, has reportedly been recast, with Jitendra Kumar stepping into the role for the film.

The booking pace has picked up sharply in the final days before release. Early estimates had the film selling around 68,000 tickets roughly two days out, marking a jump of more than 190% within 24 hours as the release date approached. Across national multiplex chains including PVR, INOX and Cinepolis, the film has sold over 20,000 tickets, while BookMyShow bookings crossed the 17,000-ticket mark. The platform reportedly sold more than 2,500 tickets an hour at points during the final push.

Trade analysts have steadily revised their opening-day predictions upward as the advance numbers have grown. Early estimates had pegged the film’s opening in the ₹14-20 crore range before climbing to an ₹18-20 crore midpoint. With the release now just a day away, projections have risen further, with some trade voices estimating an opening as high as ₹22-25 crore in the Hindi circuit. The film’s booking pace has also reportedly been moving faster than the recent hit Awarapan 2 at a similar stage.

Ticket pricing has also become part of the film’s advance-booking conversation. Standard weekend seats in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru opened at baseline rates of ₹600 to ₹900, while premium recliner options in IMAX and 4DX auditoriums have peaked as high as ₹1,800. Some select locations have reportedly touched ₹1,800-2,400 for the most premium formats.

The film’s Telugu-dubbed version, however, has seen a far more modest response, selling just 372 tickets across 15 screens so far, suggesting that the film’s strength remains concentrated almost entirely in its Hindi-speaking base.

Much of the trade’s attention on Mirzapur: The Movie has centered on what its theatrical performance could signal for streaming-native franchises more broadly. Since first premiering on Amazon Prime Video in 2018, Mirzapur has grown into one of the most-watched and most-discussed Indian web series ever made, with its later seasons drawing massive retention numbers. Its move to the big screen is being closely watched as a test case for whether an audience built entirely on streaming can be converted into theatrical footfalls.

The franchise’s strong following in tier-2 and tier-3 cities is expected to play a key role, given that audiences in these markets have traditionally leaned more on spot bookings than advance sales. That pattern could push the film’s numbers up further once it actually opens.

The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, and is being distributed theatrically by AA Films.

It brings back its original cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Sheeba Chaddha, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Abhishek Banerjee, alongside new additions including Ravi Kishan, Mohit Malik, Sushant Singh, Jitendra Kumar and Sonal Chauhan. Directed by Gurmeet Singh from a screenplay by Puneet Krishna, Mirzapur: The Movie is scheduled for release across theatres on September 4, 2026.

With ticket sales accelerating sharply in the final stretch before release and trade estimates climbing alongside them, Mirzapur: The Movie looks set for one of the stronger theatrical openings of the year for a film built entirely on a streaming legacy. Its opening will offer an early indication of how well India’s biggest web-series franchises can translate their digital following into big-screen footfalls.
