Sadie Sink Joins Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4, Set for 2026 Release

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is expanding, and the upcoming fourth installment of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise is taking shape. Sadie Sink, best known for her role in Stranger Things, has  joined the cast of Spider-Man 4 as per various media roports, which is slated for a July 31, 2026 theatrical release. The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker behind Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which left the world—including MJ (Zendaya)—forgetting Peter Parker’s identity, the new film is expected to take a drastically different approach to the web-slinger’s story. Writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, who worked on the previous Spider-Man trilogy, are returning to craft the screenplay, though plot details remain under wraps.

Tom Holland has teased that the film will be something unexpected. Speaking to Good Morning America, he said:
“The idea is crazy. It’s a little different from anything we’ve done before, but I think the fans are going to really respond to it.”

Who Is Sadie Sink Playing?

Sink’s role in Spider-Man 4 has not been disclosed, but her casting has already sparked fan theories. Some speculate she could be playing Jean Grey, signaling a potential X-Men crossover in the MCU. Others believe she may be introduced as a new version of Mary Jane Watson, given Zendaya’s MJ now has no recollection of Peter Parker.

With Sink’s growing popularity—bolstered by her critically acclaimed performance in The Whale and her upcoming Broadway debut in John Proctor Is the Villain**—her entry into the MCU is seen as a significant casting move.

Destin Daniel Cretton Steps In as Director

Another major shift in the Spider-Man franchise is the change in directional leadership. While Jon Watts helmed Holland’s first three outings (Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home), he is not returning for the fourth film. Instead, Destin Daniel Cretton, who successfully introduced Shang-Chi to the MCU, will take over. His involvement suggests a possible tonal shift, perhaps introducing a darker or more action-heavy approach.

Box Office Expectations and Franchise Legacy

The Spider-Man franchise has been one of Marvel’s biggest box office juggernauts, with No Way Home surpassing $1.9 billion globally. The upcoming film is expected to be a massive theatrical event, especially as Marvel seeks to reinvigorate audience interest after a string of underwhelming releases in recent years.

With Tom Holland returning, Sadie Sink joining, and a fresh creative vision under Cretton, Spider-Man 4 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated MCU films of 2026. As details unfold, all eyes will be on how Marvel plans to take Peter Parker’s story forward in this new era.
