Jack Reynor is continuing his run as one of horror’s rising stars, signing on to lead Seasons, a new horror feature in development at Amazon MGM Studios. The casting comes on the heels of his role in Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, further establishing Reynor as a prominent presence in the genre. He joins previously cast lead Lily James, with Drew Hancock, best known for directing Companion, attached to direct.
Jack Reynor and Lily James will play a married couple, Harry and Sasha, who move into their dream ranch home in Idaho after securing what appears to be an incredible deal on the property. They soon discover that the land is tied to a mysterious ancient entity that manifests differently depending on the time of year. As the seasons change, the couple is forced to carry out a series of increasingly disturbing rituals dictated by their unsettling new neighbor, with their survival depending on following the rules exactly as instructed.
Seasons was previously known under the working title My Wife and I Bought a Ranch, which was taken directly from the original source material. The project is based on a horror short story first posted to Reddit’s r/NoSleep forum in February 2020 by Matt Query, titled “My Wife and I Bought a Ranch in the Mountains Last Year, and My Neighbor Had Some Interesting Suggestions on How to Manage Our New Land.” After the story went viral online, Query and his brother Harrison Query expanded it into a full-length novel, which is now being adapted into a feature film.
Drew Hancock, who broke out with 2025’s Companion, is also writing the screenplay for Seasons, adapting the Query brothers’ novel for the screen. Companion, Hancock’s feature directorial debut, became a breakout success when it was released in January 2025. Made on a modest $10 million budget, the film earned nearly $37 million worldwide while receiving a 94% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B+ CinemaScore.
That reception has made Hancock one of the genre’s closely watched emerging filmmakers, and Seasons now serves as his high-profile follow-up.
Seasons marks the third collaboration between production companies 21 Laps and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, following their work together on Backrooms. Producers on the film include Shawn Levy and Dan Levine for 21 Laps, Jason Blum and Michael Clear for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, along with Scott Glassgold of 12:01 Films and Dan Cohen.
Jack Reynor has built a strong horror résumé in recent years, following his breakout supporting role in Ari Aster’s Midsommar with a lead role in Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, which was also produced by Blumhouse Atomic Monster. His other recent work includes the second season of Amazon’s Citadel and Lionsgate’s musical comedy Power Ballad. He is next set to appear in the new season of Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent, along with Gareth Evans’ upcoming remake of the 1967 action film A Colt Is My Passport.
Lily James has built a wide-ranging career across period drama, comedy and thrillers, with credits including Cinderella, Baby Driver, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Pam & Tommy, alongside her Golden Globe-nominated role in What’s Love Got to Do with It?.
With a viral internet horror story as its foundation, a director coming off a breakout hit and two established actors attached to lead it, Seasons is shaping up as one of Amazon MGM’s more closely watched horror projects in development. No release date has been set.
