Spider-Man: Brand New Day remained firmly at No. 1 at the North American box office for a third straight weekend, earning an estimated $70 million and pushing its domestic total to $785.8 million. The Sony and Marvel release fell about 51% from its second weekend, but its latest result was still enough to keep Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and two major new releases behind it. The film has now become the fourth-biggest domestic release in history.
Friday contributed $19 million, followed by $29.26 million on Saturday and an estimated $21.7 million on Sunday. The daily pattern showed a healthy Saturday rebound, helping the film finish with one of the strongest third-weekend results for a modern superhero release while both newcomers opened above $20 million.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day also reached another major milestone overseas. The film added $118.7 million internationally, taking its worldwide total to approximately $2.02 billion. That makes it only the eighth movie ever to pass $2 billion worldwide and the second-fastest to reach the mark, behind Avengers: Endgame. Its domestic run has also moved past Avatar, placing it fourth on the all-time U.S. and Canada chart.
The Odyssey stayed in second place with $23.2 million in its fifth weekend. The Universal release declined only 27%, lifting its domestic total to $504.7 million. International markets contributed another $98 million, taking Christopher Nolan’s epic beyond $1.2 billion worldwide and to about $1.29 billion overall. Its steady performance remains one of the strongest holds among this summer’s major releases.
The End of Oak Street narrowly won the race for third place, opening with $21 million from 3,446 locations. The Warner Bros. film, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, also collected $26 million internationally for a $47 million global opening. Critics gave the film an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score, while audiences were more mixed with a B CinemaScore.
PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie followed closely in fourth with $20.5 million from 3,545 theaters. The Paramount and Nickelodeon family film earned an A CinemaScore and reached $69 million worldwide, including $48.5 million from international markets. Its opening landed between the first weekends of the previous two theatrical PAW Patrol films, showing continued interest in the franchise.
KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS placed fifth with $4.0 million from just 724 screens, making it the weekend’s strongest limited-theater performer by average. SIX: The Musical Live! opened sixth with $3 million, followed by The Brink of War with $2.68 million. Toy Story 5 added $2.3 million in eighth place, taking its domestic total to about $475.5 million. One Night Only earned $2 million for ninth, while Vishwanath & Sons rounded out the Top 10 with $1.63 million.
The overall market remained notably healthy. The three-day domestic box office reached an estimated $160.14 million, down 23.5% from the previous weekend but up 55.3% from the comparable weekend last year. The summer season has crossed $4.2 billion, running about 5.7% ahead of the 2019 summer and only roughly $130 million below the record 2013 summer. The year-to-date domestic market is just under $6.9 billion.
Overall, the weekend confirmed the depth of the current theatrical recovery. Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to lead at blockbuster scale, The Odyssey is holding strongly, and the two new releases attracted different audiences without weakening the overall market. With the summer now among the strongest in recent history, the results show that audiences are still responding to a broad mix of major franchises, original films and family entertainment.
