Spider-Man: Brand New Day has opened to the biggest first day ever recorded for a Hollywood film in India. The Tom Holland-led Marvel and Sony blockbuster grossed ₹72.44 crore on its opening day after releasing a day early in the country on July 30, ahead of its worldwide rollout on July 31.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film collected ₹60.60 crore net across 17,250 shows nationwide, becoming the first Hollywood release to cross the ₹60 crore net mark on its opening day in India. The performance also established a new benchmark for Hollywood titles in the market, surpassing the previous Day 1 net collection records held by Avengers: Endgame and Avatar: The Way of Water.
The film’s opening-day gross also overtook Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which debuted with ₹67.19 crore, although it narrowly trailed Kantara Chapter 1, which remains the highest Day 1 grosser overall with ₹73.29 crore. For Hollywood releases, however, Spider-Man: Brand New Day now holds the record for the biggest opening in Indian box office history.
Collections were spread across six languages, with the English version leading the way at ₹32.25 crore net from 7,987 shows with 55% occupancy. The Hindi version followed closely with ₹22 crore net from 6,977 shows, recording an impressive 95% occupancy. Telugu contributed ₹3.25 crore, Tamil added ₹3 crore, while Malayalam and Kannada collected ₹0.07 crore and ₹0.03 crore, respectively.
Much of the film’s record-breaking opening was driven by exceptional advance bookings. Spider-Man: Brand New Day became the first Hollywood release to sell more than 50,000 tickets in a single hour on BookMyShow, while total pre-sales on the platform crossed 2 million tickets, nearly four times the figure recorded by Deadpool & Wolverine since BookMyShow began publishing real-time sales trends in August 2023. On release day, ticket sales peaked between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., when 63,670 tickets were sold within a single hour, taking the film’s total BookMyShow sales to more than 870,000 tickets by the end of the day.
The film also delivered one of the strongest advance booking performances ever seen across India’s major multiplex chains. Between PVR, INOX and Cinepolis, approximately 6 lakh tickets were sold in advance, generating around ₹27.50 crore in gross collections. PVR accounted for 3 lakh tickets, followed by INOX with 1.95 lakh and Cinepolis with 1.05 lakh. The film comfortably surpassed the advance sales of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Avengers: Infinity War, although it remained behind the all-time national chain record of 10.25 lakh tickets established by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
Beyond its commercial performance, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has also received an enthusiastic response from critics and audiences. The film currently holds a 91% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the sixth-highest-rated Spider-Man film, alongside a remarkable 98% audience score, the highest audience rating for any film in Marvel Cinematic Universe history.
India’s record-breaking debut forms part of an equally impressive global launch. Early industry estimates suggest the film has already crossed $1 billion worldwide within its first few days of release, supported by a $35 million opening in China and strong debuts across the United Kingdom, South Korea and Italy.
With such a dominant start, trade analysts believe Spider-Man: Brand New Day is well positioned to challenge the record for the highest-grossing Hollywood release ever in India, currently held by Avatar: The Way of Water with ₹477.5 crore, followed by Avengers: Endgame with ₹445 crore.
Backed by record-breaking opening-day collections, exceptional audience demand and overwhelmingly positive word of mouth, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered one of the strongest starts ever seen for a Hollywood release in India. With the weekend still ahead, the film appears firmly on course to extend its record-breaking run at the Indian box office.
