The wait is over. Marvel Studios has officially released the first full trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and it has already taken over the internet. After months of teaser trailers building piece by piece, the full picture is now clear and it is bigger, darker, and more ambitious than most people expected. The film hits theatres worldwide on December 18, 2026.
The trailer opens inside Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, where Professor X played by Patrick Stewart is suddenly struck blind by what is described as a multiverse incursion, a collision between two universes. From there the tone shifts into something genuinely ominous. Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., delivers a cold and deliberate monologue warning that something is coming, something they may not be able to stop, and that before the day is over they will face an unthinkable decision.
Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, assembles the heroes and tells them to put aside their differences. He says bluntly that they are going to need a miracle. In one of the trailer’s most electrifying moments, Chris Evans appears and casually lifts Thor’s hammer leaving Hemsworth’s Thor completely stunned, saying “It’s not possible”. Ant-Man is seen saying a quiet, heartbreaking goodbye to his daughter Cassie and large-scale battle sequences make clear this is the biggest assembling of Marvel heroes ever out on screen.
Marvel has confirmed the film’s official synopsis, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they have ever encountered before. The film is described as laying the foundation for the entire future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward.
The moment everyone has been building toward. Robert Downey Jr. played Tony Stark aka Iron Man for over a decade before making the ultimate sacrifice in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019. Now he returns to MCU, not as Tony Stark, but as a completely different character, the armoured tyrant Doctor Doom. His presence was teased silently in ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ last year in a post-credits scene, where he appeared without his face being shown. This trailer gives audiences their first full look at him in Doom’s iconic green-cloaked armour and iron mask.
At CinemaCon in April, director Joe Russo said that Doom is not simply a villain, he is one of the most complex characters in all of Marvel. He is always three moves ahead. Robert Downey Jr. himself told the CinematicCon crowd that he could not have imagined reuniting with this team, let alone as an entirely new character.
Disney releases four short teaser trailers tied to screenings of ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ in late 2025 and early 2026, slowly revealing the returning cast piece by piece. The first confirmed that Chris Evans was returning as Steve Rogers with the surprising detail that he now has a child. The second showed Chris Hemsworth’s Thor alongside his adopted daughter Love. The third gave fans the first look at Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, and James Marsden’s Cyclops entering the MCU. The fourth brought Black Panther, Namor and the Thing together in Wakanda.
The assembled cast for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is genuinely staggering. From the MCU Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby and Channing Tatum as Gambit. From the original Fox X-Men , Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, Kelsey Grammer and James Marsden. The Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts are also part of the lineup.
Joe and Anthony Russo return to direct Avengers: Doomsday, their first MCU film since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ became the second-highest-grossing film of all time in 2019. The screenplay is written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. The Russo Brothers will also direct the follow-up, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, releasing in 2027.
December 18, 2026 is the date. The multiverse saga’s final chapter is finally on its way.
