Disney’s Avengers: Endgame Encore debuted at number one at the UK and Ireland box office over the weekend of September 25 to 27, earning £4.12 million. The opening marks the biggest-ever opening weekend for a re-release in the region.
Endgame Encore is a new theatrical re-release of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, featuring four additional minutes of new footage designed to set up December’s Avengers: Doomsday. The re-release is the first title to roll out under Disney’s new Infinity Vision program, a marketing initiative built around the lead-up to Doomsday, which will also mark Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film topped the UK and Ireland chart with a strong £7,678 per-screen average across 537 cinemas. For context, Avengers: Endgame’s original 2019 release went on to earn £88.7 million in the region across its full run. The film also continues to hold up well critically, with a 94 percent critics’ score and a 96 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Screen Daily, the opening is the second-biggest ever for an archive title in the UK and Ireland, behind only the 3D re-release of Avatar.
Worldwide, Endgame Encore opened to an estimated $86 million, comprising $26 million from North America and $60 million from international markets. IMAX alone contributed an estimated $13.7 million, accounting for 16 percent of the film’s total opening. Beyond the UK and Ireland, the film also topped the box office in China, where it earned $12.5 million, as well as in Mexico, Italy, Brazil and Germany. In India, the film brought in ₹22.45 crore net over its first three days.
The re-release has pushed Avengers: Endgame’s lifetime global gross to approximately $2.88 billion, putting it just $39 million behind Avatar’s all-time box office record. With Endgame Encore continuing to play in theaters, the film has a realistic shot at overtaking Avatar to reclaim the number one spot on the all-time worldwide box office chart, a position Endgame briefly held after its original 2019 release before Avatar’s own 2021 re-release pushed it back into second place.
Endgame Encore’s strong debut is being viewed within the industry as a positive early sign for Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in theaters on December 16. Tickets for Doomsday are already on sale, with Disney clearly using the Endgame re-release to build momentum and remind audiences of the emotional weight behind the franchise ahead of its next major chapter.
Endgame Encore’s debut also helped push the overall UK and Ireland top five box office figures up nearly 50 percent compared with the same weekend last year. Two new releases also entered the top five: the animated film Heart of the Beast and a new adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, both helping refresh the chart alongside the Endgame re-release.
With a record-setting opening in the UK and Ireland and a strong showing across international markets, Avengers: Endgame Encore has given Disney and Marvel a promising start to their Doomsday rollout, while also edging the studio closer to reclaiming the all-time box office crown from Avatar.
