Emraan Hashmi has achieved a milestone that eluded him for nearly two decades. Awarapan 2 crossed the Rs 100 crore net mark in India on its fifth day, Tuesday, August 19, making it the first film of Hashmi’s career in which he leads as the solo star to reach the milestone. The number is significant not only for the actor but also for the film, which has now delivered a strong return on its reported investment and earned a hit verdict.
Awarapan 2 opened on Independence Day, August 14, with Rs 21 crore net on Day 1, the biggest opening day of Emraan Hashmi’s solo career. Day 2, Saturday, brought a massive jump to Rs 33 crore net as the holiday weekend kicked in fully, a 55 percent increase from the opening day. Sunday added Rs 28 crore net, taking the opening weekend total to approximately Rs 82 crore net.
Monday brought the expected weekday drop, with the film collecting Rs 9.25 crore net. Tuesday, however, showed stronger stability, with Day 5 bringing in Rs 9.75 crore net from 11,060 shows. That represented a 5.4 percent increase over Monday, suggesting that the film was stabilising into a healthy weekday run rather than continuing to decline.
The Tuesday collection took Awarapan 2’s India net total to Rs 100.75 crore. Its India gross stands at Rs 120.33 crore, while overseas collections have added Rs 23.80 crore, taking the worldwide gross total to Rs 144.13 crore after five days. The film is expected to cross Rs 150 crore worldwide before the end of its first week.
The Rs 100 crore milestone is particularly significant for Hashmi. He previously appeared in Tiger 3, which grossed more than Rs 100 crore, but he played the antagonist in what amounted to an extended cameo. Awarapan 2 is his first film as the full solo lead to cross the Rs 100 crore mark.
Awarapan 2 was reportedly made on a production budget of approximately Rs 45 crore, giving the mainstream Hindi action film a relatively controlled budget. With the India net collection already at Rs 100.75 crore, the film has returned more than twice its production investment in five days. Koimoi calculated the return on investment at 133.3 percent by Day 5, with a net profit of approximately Rs 60 crore already on the books. The trade verdict is a hit, with the film potentially moving toward the super-hit category depending on its second-week performance.
On Day 5, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 28.24 percent across its shows. The NCR region led the major markets with 44.3 percent occupancy, continuing the pattern seen throughout the film’s run, with North Indian audiences driving the numbers most consistently.
The second week will provide the next major test. 7 Dogs, the Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt action thriller, arrives in cinemas on August 21 and is expected to put pressure on Awarapan 2’s screen count. A strong second Friday hold will be important if the film is to push its total significantly higher.
With its reported budget already recovered more than twice over and the Rs 100 crore milestone secured, Awarapan 2 has already delivered a significant commercial result. For Emraan Hashmi, the film marks a major change in his box office record, giving him his first Rs 100 crore film as a solo lead after nearly two decades in the industry.
