Nimisha Sajayan’s ‘Babita Singh Reporting’ Is Coming to Prime Video on August 28

Babita Singh Reporting: Prime Video Release Date
August 17, 2026

Prime Video has confirmed the release date for one of its most anticipated Indian originals of the year. Babita Singh Reporting will premiere globally on Prime Video on August 28, 2026. The investigative drama stars Nimisha Sajayan in the lead role, supported by Barun Sobti and Anshumaan Pushkar, and marks a significant moment for the Malayalam actress as she steps into a full-length Hindi-language lead role for a major streaming platform.

Babita Singh Reporting is set in a small Indian town and follows Babita Singh, fondly called Baby, a police officer who has been suspended from duty. When her childhood friend is murdered, Baby cannot simply let the case go. Despite being off the force, she begins investigating on her own, driven by grief, loyalty and the need to find out what really happened.

As she digs deeper, the case opens up the lives of the people around her, forcing her to confront uncomfortable truths about her own family, her relationships and the choices she has made over the years.

The official caption from Prime Video India put it simply: “One murder, too many secrets.” It is a premise built around the kind of slow-burn, character-driven storytelling that Indian streaming audiences have responded to strongly in recent years.

The film is directed by Ambiecka Pandit and written by Amita Vyas. Executive producer Sudip Sharma, one of the most respected writers in Hindi streaming and cinema, known for Udta Punjab, NH10 and Paatal Lok, brings additional creative weight to the project. His involvement as executive producer signals the kind of serious, grounded storytelling ambition the film is aiming for.

The film is produced by Saurabh Malhotra, Manuj Mittra and Tina Tharwani under Film Squad Productions, in association with Act Three.

Nimisha Sajayan leads the film as Babita Singh. The Kerala-born actress has built a formidable reputation in Malayalam cinema. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for The Great Indian Kitchen in 2021 and has consistently taken on roles that are grounded, complex and far removed from mainstream commercial templates.

Her casting in a Hindi Prime Video original as the sole lead is a significant career moment and reflects the growing recognition of South Indian talent in the OTT space.

Barun Sobti, best known for his iconic role in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon and his critically praised performance in Asur, plays a key role in the film. Anshumaan Pushkar, who has been one of the consistently impressive performers in Hindi streaming content, with acclaimed work in Panchayat and The Family Man, also stars alongside them.

The combination of these three actors, each with distinct screen identities and established credibility with streaming audiences, makes for a cast that will draw viewers in before they have even seen a trailer.

Deadline confirmed that the film will launch globally on Prime Video, making it available to audiences not just in India but across all territories where Prime Video operates. That international rollout reflects Amazon’s confidence in the film’s cross-border appeal and its ability to travel beyond the Indian market.

Indian investigative dramas, particularly those rooted in small-town settings with strong female leads, have found receptive audiences internationally over the past several years, and Babita Singh Reporting appears well-positioned to follow that path.

Barun Sobti has another project in the pipeline as well. He will appear in Welcome to Khoya Mahal alongside Aditi Rao Hydari, adding to what is shaping up as a busy period for him across platforms.

Babita Singh Reporting premieres globally on Prime Video on August 28. For Nimisha Sajayan, it is a landmark moment. For viewers who have been waiting for a sharp, small-town Indian investigative drama with a female officer at its centre, the wait ends on August 28.
