Chhaava Breaks Record with a Historic 2nd Weekend

Chhaava Breaks Records with a Historic 2nd Weekend
February 25, 2025

Bollywood’s box office had a clear winner last week as Chhaava breaks record for the highest second weekend collection by an original Hindi-language film. While Pushpa 2 still holds the overall record (₹114 crore) as a dubbed release, Chhaava has set a new scond weekend benchmark for Bollywood films, surpassing Stree 2 (₹93 crore) and Gadar 2 (₹89 crore).

Meanwhile, new release Mere Husband Ki Biwi opened below expectations, while Badass Ravikumar and Loveyapa continued their disastrous run at the box office.

Chhaava’s Box Office Run: Aiming for ₹500 Crore?

With a second weekend collection of ₹102 crore, Chhaava has now reached ₹345 crore nett in just 11 days. The film’s momentum remains strong in Maharashtra, outperforming even Pushpa 2 in the region. However, Chhaava faces a challenge in the Mumbai circuit, where Pushpa 2 had stronger support from Gujarat.

With a worldwide gross of ₹444.5 crore, Chhaava is on track to join the ₹500 crore club. The question remains: Can it sustain its third-week performance to achieve this milestone?

Biggest Second Weekends for Hindi Films (Original & Dubbed)

FilmSecond Weekend Collection (₹ Cr)
Pushpa 2 (Dubbed)114 Cr
Chhaava (Hindi)102 Cr
Stree 293 Cr
Gadar 289 Cr

The film’s hold in Maharashtra is exceptional, outperforming even Pushpa 2, making it the biggest box office success in the region. However, the Mumbai circuit presents a challenge due to Gujarat’s relatively lower contribution. While ₹500 crore seems achievable, sustaining this momentum into the third week remains a key test.

Mere Husband Ki Biwi Opens Slow, Future Uncertain

box office roundup - mere husband ki biwi below average opeining chhaava breaks recordAmong the new releases, Mere Husband Ki Biwi had a below-average opening, collecting ₹5 crore nett by Monday. Despite a weak start, trade analysts consider it decent in comparison to Arjun Kapoor’s last solo theatrical films, including The Lady Killer, Kuttey, and Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, all of which underperformed at the box office.

The film’s fate now depends on weekday trends, as it will need strong word-of-mouth to maintain screens and collections.

Badass Ravikumar & Loveyapa: Box Office Disasters

While Mere Husband Ki Biwi still has a chance to recover, other recent releases have already collapsed at the box office.

Badass Ravikumar

Himesh Reshammiya’s action parody has been a box office failure, collecting just ₹10 crore (approx) worldwide. With a budget of ₹25 crore (reportedly), the film has turned out to be a commercial flop and has nearly ended its theatrical run.

Loveyapa

The romantic drama featuring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor has fared even worse, struggling to reach ₹7 crore nett in 10 days. With almost no audience traction, the film has been declared a box office disaster and is expected to be pulled from theaters soon.

Will Chhaava Continue to Dominate?

With Chhaava rewriting Bollywood’s box office history, all eyes are now on its record-breaking potential in the coming weeks.

With no major Bollywood releases on the horizon, Chhaava remains the dominant force at the box office. The real question is whether it can maintain its pace in its third week. If the drop in collections is minimal, the film could comfortably cross ₹500 crore nett, making it one of Bollywood’s highest-grossing films.

Meanwhile, Mere Husband Ki Biwi will have a chance to stabilize over the weekdays, but it will need exceptional word-of-mouth to avoid a quick exit from cinemas.

As Chhaava continues its record-breaking journey, all eyes are on whether it can sustain its run long enough to set even bigger milestones in Bollywood history.
