Filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has officially commenced at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, marking an exciting milestone for the next chapter in the DC Universe. Directed by Craig Gillespie and adapted by Ana Nogueira from Tom King’s acclaimed 2022 comic book miniseries, the movie is slated to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. This film is the second installment in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s ambitious reboot of the DC Universe, following the highly anticipated Superman starring David Corenswet.

A Heroine’s Journey

Milly Alcock, known for her breakout role in House of the Dragon, takes on the mantle of Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl. The origin story will delve into Kara’s life before she finds her way to Earth, offering fans a fresh perspective on the iconic character. Alcock’s casting has generated excitement, promising a compelling and layered portrayal of the heroine.

Jason Momoa Returns to DC as Lobo

In a surprising twist, Jason Momoa is making his return to the DC Universe, but not as the king of Atlantis. Instead, Momoa will step into the shoes of Lobo, the notorious antihero and intergalactic bounty hunter. A self-proclaimed fan of the character, Momoa expressed his enthusiasm for the role, calling it a “dream come true.” Lobo’s dark, violent nature adds an intriguing dynamic to the film, setting the stage for intense clashes with Supergirl.

A Great Supporting Cast

Joining Alcock and Momoa are Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley. Schoenaerts will portray Krem of the Yellow Hills, the film’s primary antagonist, while Ridley takes on the role of Ruthye Marye Knoll, a key character from the comic series. Their addition ensures a well-rounded ensemble to bring Tom King’s celebrated narrative to life.

A New Era for DC

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is part of a larger vision by James Gunn and Peter Safran to rejuvenate the DC franchise. With its fresh storytelling approach and stellar cast, the film sets a high bar for future installments. It will follow the release of Superman, scheduled for July 11, 2025, and aims to establish a cohesive and engaging narrative for fans.

As the DC Universe evolves under new leadership, fans can look forward to a reimagined cinematic experience that celebrates its iconic characters while exploring uncharted territory. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is poised to be a cornerstone of this exciting new era.
