India Box Office: Jana Nayagan Storms to ₹124.75 Crore in Extended Opening Weekend, The Odyssey Continues Strong Run

Jana Nayagan dominated the India box office with a ₹124.75 crore four-day opening, while The Odyssey crossed ₹119.65 crore and Dhamaal 4 continued its run.

India box office belonged to Jana Nayagan, which comfortably topped the charts with a blockbuster extended opening. Released on Thursday, the Vijay-starrer grossed ₹124.75 crore over its first four days, including ₹82.05 crore during the traditional Friday-to-Sunday weekend. After opening with a massive ₹42.70 crore on Thursday, the film witnessed an expected dip on Friday before rebounding strongly over Saturday and Sunday, delivering one of the biggest starts of 2026.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its remarkable theatrical run in India by collecting another ₹29.35 crore over the weekend. The Hollywood epic has now amassed ₹119.65 crore domestically, making it comfortably the highest-grossing MPA release in India this year. Strong word-of-mouth, premium-format demand and repeat audiences have helped the film sustain excellent momentum, and it continues to perform exceptionally despite fresh competition from new Indian releases.

Among the holdover releases, Dhamaal 4 added ₹13 crore during its third weekend to push its domestic total to ₹138.90 crore. While the comedy remains one of Bollywood’s major commercial successes of the year, its collections have begun slowing compared to the strong trend it enjoyed through its third weekend, indicating that the film is gradually entering the final phase of its theatrical run.

The weekend’s notable new Hindi release, Chennai Love Story, debuted with a moderate ₹17.20 crore opening weekend. The romantic drama managed a respectable start but fell short of emerging as a major breakout, and its long-term performance will now depend on how strongly it holds during the weekdays.

The rest of the new releases failed to make a meaningful impact at the box office. Kannada film Karavali collected ₹3.46 crore, while Ishqnama followed closely with ₹3.20 crore. Horror-comedy Bhootam Bhayyam earned ₹1.48 crore, The India Story collected ₹0.73 crore, and Tera Yaar Hoon Main managed ₹0.42 crore. None of these films generated significant momentum, reflecting another weekend where audiences largely concentrated on established performers.

One of the most impressive stories continues to be Main Wapas Aaunga, which added ₹0.43 crore in its seventh weekend, taking its domestic total to ₹65 crore while still playing in select theatres. The film opened to a modest ₹5.5 crore opening weekend but gradually transformed into one of the year’s biggest sleeper successes through exceptional word-of-mouth. Although its theatrical journey is now nearing its conclusion, its steady climb from a small opening to a ₹65 crore lifetime total remains one of the strongest examples of audience-driven success this year.

Meanwhile, Welcome to the Jungle continued winding down its theatrical run with ₹0.34 crore over the weekend, lifting its domestic total to ₹133.81 crore. The comedy has already completed the bulk of its theatrical business and is now approaching the end of its run.

While the latest crop of new releases struggled to find an audience, Main Wapas Aaunga continued to demonstrate the power of sustained word-of-mouth as it nears the end of one of the year’s most remarkable theatrical runs. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day arriving this week, the Indian box office is now set for another major shake-up.
