Indian Box Office Report: ‘Jaat’ Shows Promise,
The Indian box office saw a diverse mix of regional films battling it out over the weekend of April 11–14, 2025. With a blend of new releases and holdovers, the market showed encouraging signs of resilience, even as a few titles slowed down considerably.
Jaat Posts Strong Sunday, Eyes Momentum
The Punjabi action-drama Jaat emerged as a key talking point over the weekend. After a Thursday release, the film showed signs of promise, particularly with its Sunday performance. The film recorded a significant 43.59% jump on its fourth day, collecting an estimated ₹14 crore on Sunday alone. This brought its four-day India net total to ₹40.25 crore.
The film’s trajectory has been notable, especially considering a dip on Friday following its Thursday debut. However, solid recovery over Saturday and Sunday indicates positive word-of-mouth. Trade sources suggest that the film did especially well in Rajasthan, Delhi/UP, West Punjab, and surprisingly, even Maharashtra and Gujarat witnessed improved footfalls.
With a partial holiday on Monday and Tuesday poised to be the real test, Jaat seems poised to sustain momentum if weekday holds remain strong. Its organic growth is being appreciated as a refreshing change amid an industry often criticized for inflating numbers post-pandemic.
Good Bad Ugly Leads the Southern Pack
From the Telugu film industry, Good Bad Ugly made a solid impression. The film, starring a prominent Telugu cast, opened on Thursday and amassed ₹85.1 crore in four days. It showed strong retention through the weekend with Sunday alone contributing over ₹21 crore.
The film’s split shows ₹80.9 crore from its Telugu version and ₹4.2 crore from Tamil dubs, making it one of the highest-grossing South Indian films in recent weeks. Though the second Friday will define its longevity, it currently leads the weekend in terms of net collection among new releases.
Sikandar Slows Down After Robust Start
After a powerful debut two weeks ago, Sikandar — starring Salman Khan — seems to be nearing the end of its theatrical run. The action-thriller’s 15-day total stands at ₹109.04 crore India net. While its first week fetched a robust ₹90.25 crore, the second week saw a steep drop of over 80%, collecting just ₹17.55 crore.
The third weekend offered minimal support, with the film pulling in ₹0.54 crore on its third Sunday. Given the rapid drop-off and lack of buzz around weekday screenings, Sikandar is likely to wrap up with a final tally in the ₹110–112 crore range, making it a decent performer but falling short of blockbuster status.
Bazooka Fizzles Out
In contrast, the Malayalam action flick Bazooka struggled to gain momentum. With just ₹9.15 crore in its four-day run, the film saw day-by-day declines, earning only ₹1.85 crore on Sunday. Despite some pre-release buzz and a stylish promotional campaign, the film couldn’t connect with audiences on a larger scale.
Weekend Takeaway: Regional Diversity Shines
The April 11–14 weekend showcased the continued importance of regional cinema in India’s theatrical landscape. While Jaat benefitted from strong ground-level marketing and grassroots appeal, Good Bad Ugly reaffirmed the Telugu industry’s pull with mass entertainers.
Meanwhile, Sikandar’s journey reflects the challenge of sustaining audience interest beyond the opening week, especially in a post-festival window. The underperformance of Bazooka also underscores the volatility smaller films face without strong weekday holds.
