Animal Farm — Release Date: 1 May 2026. Directed by Andy Serkis, starring Seth Rogen, Gaten Matarazzo, Kieran Culkin and Glenn Close. Written by Nicholas Stoller and based on George Orwell’s 1945 novella, the animated fantasy comedy-adventure is produced by Cinesite, Aniventure and Imaginarium Productions.

Animal Farm presents a new animated adaptation of Orwell’s classic allegorical work, reinterpreting its themes through a contemporary and family-oriented narrative lens. While retaining the central premise of animals rebelling against human control, this version introduces additional characters and a coming-of-age perspective that expands upon the original material.

The story centers on Lucky, a young piglet navigating the evolving power dynamics within Animal Farm. As the animals attempt to establish a new order following their rebellion, competing ideologies emerge between key figures such as Napoleon and Snowball. Through Lucky’s perspective, the narrative explores themes of leadership, loyalty and moral choice within a changing social structure.

The film features an ensemble voice cast led by Seth Rogen as Napoleon and Gaten Matarazzo as Lucky. Kieran Culkin voices Squealer, while Laverne Cox portrays Snowball. Additional voices include Glenn Close, Woody Harrelson, Jim Parsons, Steve Buscemi, Andy Serkis and Kathleen Turner, contributing to a character-driven narrative with a broad tonal range.

Directed by Andy Serkis, the project has undergone a long development process, with production eventually taking shape as a fully animated feature. The screenplay by Nicholas Stoller adapts Orwell’s novella while introducing new narrative elements and characters to align with its updated storytelling approach.

The film completed production in 2024 and premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on 9 June 2025. It later screened at the BFI London Film Festival, marking its presence in major international festivals prior to its wide release.

Animal Farm is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on 1 May 2026 by Angel Studios. Positioned as a modern animated adaptation, the film blends its source material’s thematic foundation with a revised narrative structure aimed at a broader audience.
