Cool Books (Casi todo bien)

Cool Books — Release Date: 24 April 2026. Directed by Andrés Salmoyraghi and Rafael López Saubidet, starring Marcel Borràs, Silma López, Lorenzo Ferro and Julián Villagrán. Written by Rafael López Saubidet and Ricardo Uhagón Vivas, the Spanish-language comedy-drama is produced by Cool Books Movies, Bondi Stories, Emedia Canary Projects and AF Canary Islands.

Set in Madrid, Cool Books follows Hilario, a 40-year-old aspiring novelist who works at a small independent bookstore called La Ménsula. Despite harboring literary ambitions, Hilario has settled into a routine defined by cynicism and emotional detachment. He earns a living under the ownership of Andrea, who runs the bookstore, while navigating a life that appears stagnant both professionally and personally.

The narrative shifts when Andrea decides to sell the bookstore, threatening the fragile stability Hilario has constructed around himself. Around the same time, a chance encounter with a young woman at a party disrupts his self-imposed indifference. As the security of his workplace fades and new emotional possibilities emerge, Hilario is compelled to confront long-avoided aspirations and unresolved questions about adulthood, creativity and belonging.

Described by its filmmakers as a “love letter to books” and a late coming-of-age story, the film balances humor with introspection. The screenplay places its protagonist within a transitional phase of life, exploring how personal reinvention can arise from professional uncertainty and unexpected relationships.

Marcel Borràs leads the film as Hilario, joined by Silma López, Lorenzo Ferro, Secun de la Rosa, Adelfa Calvo and Julián Villagrán in supporting roles. The ensemble-driven narrative reflects a character-focused approach rooted in contemporary urban life.

Cool Books is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 29th Málaga Film Festival on 7 March 2026. It will be theatrically released in Spain on 24 April 2026.
