Karma follows Jeanne, a woman attempting to rebuild her life in a quiet village in northern Spain alongside her partner Daniel, who remains unaware of her past. Their fragile stability is disrupted when Mateo, Jeanne’s six-year-old godson, suddenly disappears under mysterious circumstances. As suspicion quickly turns toward Jeanne, she finds herself at the center of a police investigation.

In an effort to evade mounting scrutiny, Jeanne flees to France, seeking refuge in a religious community where she was raised but had previously left behind. The return to this environment reintroduces elements of her past that she had attempted to distance herself from, placing her in a space marked by both familiarity and unresolved history.

While authorities intensify their search, Daniel refuses to accept Jeanne’s presumed guilt. Determined to find her and uncover the truth, he embarks on his own pursuit, navigating the growing uncertainty surrounding her involvement in the disappearance. The narrative unfolds through intersecting perspectives, balancing the investigation with Jeanne’s attempts to remain hidden and Daniel’s effort to piece together the reality behind the accusations.

The film situates its central mystery within a character-driven framework, exploring themes of identity, trust, and the consequences of past actions. Marion Cotillard plays Jeanne, with Leonardo Sbaraglia, Luis Zahera, and Denis Ménochet appearing in key roles.

Directed by Guillaume Canet, Karma marks another collaboration between Canet and Cotillard. The film was shot across locations in Catalonia, Spain, and France, with cinematography by Benoît Debie. It is scheduled to have its world premiere out of competition at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.

Karma will be released theatrically in France on 21 October 2026 by Pathé.
