Directed by Kevin Williamson from a screenplay co-written with Guy Busick, the seventh chapter of the long-running slasher franchise reunites Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott — marking her return to the series after being absent in the previous installment. The film once again positions Ghostface at the centre of the narrative, but with a generational shift that places Sidney’s daughter as the new target. Courteney Cox returns as Gale Weathers, joined by Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, continuing the legacy cast alongside a fresh ensemble including Isabel May, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons and Mark Consuelos. Paramount Pictures releases the film in the United States.

Set in Pine Grove, Indiana, the story follows Sidney in a quieter, more grounded phase of her life — one deliberately built away from the trauma she endured for decades. When killings begin again under the familiar Ghostface mask, the peace collapses. A new streak of brutality emerges with attacks growing closer to home, pushing Sidney back into a fight she hoped she had left behind. The emotional centre of the narrative lies in her efforts to protect her daughter while confronting unfinished shadows of the past. The film explores legacy horror through a mother–daughter dynamic, bridging the original Woodsboro generation with a new wave of survivors who understand the cost of being hunted.

Production history of the project has been turbulent. After Scream VI, the series changed creative direction when Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett exited, leading to Christopher Landon’s brief involvement before the cast reconfigurations caused another shift. By early 2024, Kevin Williamson — the original writer behind the franchise — stepped in to direct, marking his first directorial entry in the saga. Filming took place from January to March 2025.

Framed as both a continuation and a homecoming, Scream 7 positions itself as a story about legacy, survival and the cyclical nature of fear — with Sidney Prescott confronting one final hunt to break the pattern once and for all.
