Prabhas’ Spirit is heading to theatres during the Diwali 2027 release window, potentially setting up a major box-office contest with Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part Two. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has moved his upcoming cop action drama from March to October 29, 2027, placing it in one of the busiest periods on the Indian theatrical calendar. Meanwhile, Ramayana: Part Two is also targeting Diwali 2027, raising the possibility of a clash between a contemporary action thriller and a large-scale mythological epic.
Spirit was previously scheduled for a theatrical release on March 5, 2027, following an earlier tentative window in late 2026. Its revised date places the film in the festive season, when major productions compete for audience attention and theatrical screens.
The shift brings Prabhas’ first collaboration with Sandeep Reddy Vanga into one of the most closely watched release windows of 2027. Prabhas has headlined several major pan-Indian productions, while Vanga has built a distinctive filmmaking identity through Arjun Reddy, its Hindi remake Kabir Singh, and Animal. Their collaboration is therefore one of the key factors drawing attention to Spirit, beyond its newly announced release date.
One of the film’s biggest talking points is the pairing of Prabhas and Vanga for the first time. Prabhas will play a police officer in the action drama, marking his entry into a role centred on law enforcement. Triptii Dimri plays the female lead, while Vivek Oberoi and Prakash Raj are also part of the cast.
The project brings Prabhas’ star presence together with Vanga’s approach to intense, character-driven storytelling. Their first collaboration adds to the film’s profile on the 2027 release calendar, particularly now that it has secured a date in the Diwali period.
The potential box-office contest becomes more intriguing when the contrasting subjects of the two films are considered. Spirit follows a police officer in a contemporary action drama, while Ramayana: Part Two continues the cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic. The latter features Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, with Sunny Deol also among the announced cast.
The films bring different genres, casts and storytelling approaches to the same potential release window. Spirit combines a contemporary action premise with the pairing of Prabhas and Vanga, while Ramayana: Part Two draws on a widely recognised epic and an ensemble cast. Both productions have considerable star power and are being positioned for theatrical audiences, making their eventual release schedules worth watching.
A direct box-office clash, however, remains unconfirmed. The exact release date for Ramayana: Part Two will need to be announced before the extent of any scheduling overlap becomes clear. If both films arrive during the same festive period, their release strategies and screen availability could become important considerations for the Indian theatrical market.
The announcement of Spirit’s revised date was accompanied by a new poster shared by Vanga on X. Before revealing the image, the filmmaker teased Prabhas’ appearance with a reference to introducing fans to “the man behind the shades”. The poster showed the actor wearing a black cap and dark sunglasses, keeping much of his expression hidden.
With Spirit now scheduled for October 29, 2027, and Ramayana: Part Two targeting the same festive period, Diwali could emerge as an important window for Indian theatrical cinema. The prospect of two high-profile productions arriving around the same time adds another major point of interest to the 2027 release calendar.
The significance lies not only in the possibility of the films competing for screens and audiences, but also in the different cinematic experiences they offer. Prabhas and Vanga are coming together for a cop action drama, while Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi lead a mythological production built around one of India’s most enduring epics.
The scheduling change has placed Spirit firmly in the Diwali 2027 conversation. Whether it ultimately faces Ramayana: Part Two on the same release date will depend on the latter film’s confirmed schedule. Until then, the two projects remain among the major releases to watch as further dates are announced.
