Prime Video is making one of its biggest long-term commitments to Latin American entertainment, announcing plans to invest more than $2 billion in the region between 2027 and 2030. The announcement was made on August 20 at Prime Video’s first regional showcase in Mexico City, where the streaming service also revealed plans to launch more than 25 new local titles in 2027. The company said it expects to more than double its number of Latin American Local Originals by 2030, marking a major expansion of its regional production strategy.
The new slate will cover several Latin American markets, with Prime Video continuing to develop stories created with local filmmakers, writers, actors and production companies. Among the returning projects highlighted in the announcement are La Oficina Season 2, Tremembé Season 2 and Menem Season 2, alongside Marília, adding new projects to a growing pipeline of regional productions.
The scale of the investment is significant because Prime Video is not treating Latin America as a short-term programming opportunity. The company is committing resources across several years, allowing it to build a larger production pipeline and develop more stories from the region for both local and international audiences. Its plan to more than double its Local Originals by 2030 also signals that Latin American content will become a larger part of Prime Video’s global entertainment offering.
Prime Video’s expansion is also supported by its broader presence in the region. The service says it reaches more than 20 million households across Latin America, giving its upcoming local productions a substantial potential audience. Alongside scripted entertainment, Prime Video is expanding its sports offering, strengthening its position as a broader entertainment platform rather than relying only on films and series.
The company’s announcement comes as streaming platforms continue to compete for audiences by investing in stories that reflect local cultures while also having international appeal. Latin American cinema and television have produced several successful titles that have travelled beyond their home markets, creating opportunities for platforms to turn regional productions into global programming.
Another important part of the strategy is the opportunity for Latin American productions to travel beyond the region. By investing in stories rooted in local markets, Prime Video can build a stronger pipeline of content that may attract audiences in other territories. This could give regional filmmakers greater international visibility while helping the platform strengthen connections between Latin American storytelling and its global subscriber base.
For Prime Video, the new commitment could reshape the scale of its Latin American content operation over the next four years. The immediate focus will be the more than 25 titles planned for 2027, while the larger goal is to establish a significantly bigger slate of Local Originals by 2030.
With more than $2 billion committed and a clear target to expand local production, Prime Video is positioning Latin America as a major part of its future content strategy. The announcement also gives audiences a clearer look at where the platform is heading: more locally made stories, more returning regional franchises and a much larger pipeline of Latin American entertainment.
