Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is heading to streaming, with Prime Video announcing November 12 as the date for its worldwide digital premiere. The action-crime sequel, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, will be available in India and more than 240 countries and territories, taking the return of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian to audiences beyond its theatrical run. The announcement follows the film’s reported strong box-office performance and marks its next major release window after its theatrical exhibition.

Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 sees Rajinikanth reprise his role as Muthuvel Pandian, the retired prison officer introduced in the 2023 film Jailer. The sequel will stream in five languages in India: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. The original Jailer is already available on Prime Video, allowing subscribers to revisit the first chapter of the franchise alongside the new instalment. With both films available on the same platform, viewers will have access to the two parts of Muthuvel Pandian’s story.

The streaming announcement follows a strong theatrical performance in India and overseas. Variety reported that Jailer 2 had grossed approximately $86 million at the time of its report, describing it as the highest-grossing Tamil-language film of all time. The film has also been reported to be continuing its theatrical run as it prepares for its digital debut. Its move to streaming therefore comes as the sequel transitions from its cinema release to a wider international audience.

The November 12 premiere will extend the film’s reach across more than 240 countries and territories. In India, its availability in five languages brings the sequel to audiences beyond its original Tamil-language market. The multilingual release also reflects the film’s broader cast, which includes performers associated with several major Indian film industries. Prime Video’s announcement means that both Jailer films will now be available on the service, giving audiences the opportunity to watch the franchise’s two instalments on one platform.

Alongside Rajinikanth, the sequel features several prominent names from Indian cinema. Malayalam actor Mohanlal, Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan, Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi and Kannada actor Shivarajkumar make special appearances. The wider cast includes SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, Ramya Krishnan, Namo Narayana and Yogi Babu. The ensemble brings together performers from different regional industries, continuing the franchise’s association with a broad range of Indian screen talent.

The creative team from the first film also returns for the sequel. Nelson Dilipkumar has directed Jailer 2, while Anirudh Ravichander returns as music composer. Kalanithi Maran produces the film under the Sun Pictures banner. The reunion of the director, lead actor, composer and production house maintains continuity with the original film while taking the story forward through a new conflict involving Muthuvel and his family.

Speaking about the move to streaming, Nelson said the response to the first Jailer and the affection audiences have shown for Muthuvel Pandian made the sequel particularly meaningful. He added that the team wanted to take the story, action, scale and emotional stakes further while retaining the connection audiences had built with the character. The director also expressed his excitement about bringing the film to Prime Video, where it will join the original instalment.

Picking up after the events of the first film, Jailer 2 follows Muthuvel as he is pulled out of retirement when a powerful criminal syndicate threatens his family. The group has political influence and international connections, extending the danger beyond the immediate threats he faced previously. With former enemies returning to settle scores and new alliances emerging, Muthuvel must rely on his instincts once again to protect his loved ones and restore order.

The sequel expands the world established in the first film while bringing together actors from different Indian film industries. Its ensemble cast and returning creative team form an important part of the next chapter, while the story places Muthuvel in a situation that draws him back into conflict despite his attempt to leave his former life behind. The threat to his family becomes the central reason for his return, giving the character another challenge to confront.

With its theatrical performance now followed by a global streaming release, Jailer 2 is set to reach a wider audience on November 12. The film will premiere on Prime Video in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada in India, with availability extending to more than 240 countries and territories. The original Jailer is already streaming on the platform, making both instalments accessible to viewers as Rajinikanth returns as Muthuvel Pandian.
