Crunchyroll and Aniplex have officially announced Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, a brand-new theatrical anime feature film that will continue the story of Sung Jinwoo following the events of Solo Leveling Season 2 – Arise from the Shadow. The project was unveiled during the Crunchyroll Showcase at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, marking the next chapter for one of the world’s most successful anime franchises.
Unlike a compilation film, Solo Leveling: Beyond the System has been confirmed as a direct continuation of the television series. The film will follow Sung Jinwoo as he embarks on the next stage of his journey after the events of Season 2, with Crunchyroll describing it as adapting “the next phase” of the Shadow Monarch’s story. While the announcement confirms that production is underway, no plot details beyond its continuation of the anime have been revealed.
A-1 Pictures will return to animate the feature after producing both seasons of the anime adaptation. The film is being co-produced by Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C Media, and Kakao Piccoma, bringing together the companies behind the franchise’s global success. Alongside the announcement, Crunchyroll unveiled a new teaser visual and a promotional concept video, although a theatrical release date has yet to be announced.
The announcement arrives after months of speculation about the future of the franchise. Following the conclusion of Season 2, many fans had expected news of a third television season. Earlier this year, Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini indicated that work on the franchise’s next chapter was progressing, but instead of immediately announcing another season, the series will continue with a theatrical film.
Based on the South Korean web novel by Chugong, Solo Leveling was later adapted into the globally popular webtoon illustrated by the late DUBU (REDICE Studio) and adapted by h-goon. The anime adaptation premiered in 2024, with Season 2 – Arise from the Shadow following in 2025, quickly becoming one of Crunchyroll’s biggest original successes.
The franchise has continued to grow well beyond television. The original web novel and webtoon have accumulated more than 650 million page views on Japan’s Piccoma platform, while the anime won Anime of the Year at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, cementing its status as one of the medium’s biggest global hits.
For now, Solo Leveling: Beyond the System represents the next major chapter in Sung Jinwoo’s story. Although Crunchyroll and Aniplex have yet to announce the film’s release date, director, voice cast or additional story details, the confirmation of a theatrical sequel ensures that one of anime’s most popular franchises will continue expanding before audiences eventually return for the next television season.
