Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered one of the biggest opening days in box office history. On its first day in North American theaters, the Marvel and Sony blockbuster earned $157.5 million, narrowly surpassing Avengers: Endgame‘s $157.4 million opening-day record, which had stood since 2019. The difference was just $100,000, but it was enough for Tom Holland’s latest outing as Spider-Man to claim the biggest opening day ever recorded at the domestic box office.
The record-breaking debut was powered by an enormous $75 million from Thursday preview screenings before Friday business pushed the film to its historic opening-day total. The unprecedented demand was also reflected in its theatrical footprint, with Brand New Day accounting for approximately 49% of all North American showtimes heading into the weekend. By comparison, The Odyssey, which posted a massive opening just two weeks earlier, occupied around 22% of available showtimes.
The new benchmark ends a seven-year reign by Avengers: Endgame, whose opening-day record had remained untouched despite numerous blockbuster releases. Brand New Day also comfortably surpassed the previous best opening day for a Spider-Man film, improving on Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s $121.5 million debut by approximately $36 million.
Attention now turns to the weekend, where Deadline is projecting a domestic opening between $280 million and $320 million, with some industry tracking suggesting the film could finish even higher depending on Saturday and Sunday business. If the film reaches the upper end of those projections, it would become the biggest opening weekend ever for a Spider-Man film while moving within striking distance of Avengers: Endgame‘s all-time domestic opening weekend record of $357.1 million. Even the lower end of current projections would place Brand New Day among the five biggest opening weekends in cinema history.
Several factors appear to have contributed to the film’s exceptional launch. Brand New Day entered theaters with a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score, the highest for an MCU film since Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. Audience anticipation also grew following the reveal of Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, the return of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, and early reactions praising what many described as one of Tom Holland’s strongest performances as Spider-Man. The release also benefited from a summer box office that has continued to demonstrate strong audience demand for theatrical releases, following the impressive opening of The Odyssey just weeks earlier.
Internationally, the film is currently tracking toward a worldwide opening weekend between $500 million and $600 million, a result that would rank among the biggest global launches in Marvel Cinematic Universe history if achieved.
The momentum has extended beyond North America. In India, Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened to approximately ₹72 crore across Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu versions, making it one of the biggest opening days ever recorded for a Hollywood release in the country. According to the source material, the film had also crossed the ₹100 crore mark by its second day and continued to perform strongly across regional markets.
Full weekend results will be confirmed once Sunday grosses are reported. With a record-breaking opening day already secured and weekend projections remaining exceptionally strong, attention now shifts to whether Spider-Man: Brand New Day can continue its momentum and challenge one of the most enduring opening-weekend records in box office history.
