Independent distributor Viva Kids has acquired North American rights to three animated features — Treasure Trekkers, Space Cadet, and Pirate Mo and the Legend of the Red Ruby — further expanding its growing lineup of family-oriented animated films. Release dates for the titles have not yet been announced.

The acquisitions continue Viva Kids’ push into the animation space as the distributor builds a slate aimed at young audiences and families. The three films offer distinctly different adventures, ranging from globe-trotting treasure hunts and emotional space journeys to high-seas pirate escapades.

Among the acquisitions is Treasure Trekkers, an animated adventure based on J.S. Friedman’s children’s book series Maurice’s Valises. Directed by Kevin Munroe, the film follows a group of young explorers embarking on quests around the world. The voice cast includes Alan Cumming, Jack McBrayer, Greg Cipes, Tara Strong, Meredith Bull, and John DiMaggio, giving the project one of the strongest ensemble voice lineups among Viva Kids’ newly acquired titles.

Also joining the distributor’s slate is Space Cadet, directed by musician and filmmaker Kid Koala, also known as Eric San. The animated feature tells the story of astronaut Celeste, who embarks on her first solo mission into space while leaving behind Robot, the guardian who raised her. As Celeste navigates unexpected dangers in deep space, both characters must learn what it means to let go and move forward. The film features Karen and Emiliana Torrini among its voice cast.

The third acquisition, Pirate Mo and the Legend of the Red Ruby, is adapted from acclaimed German author Kirsten Boie’s children’s book Seeräubermoses. Directed by Florian Westermann, the animated adventure follows Mo, a courageous young girl raised aboard a pirate ship who sets out on a quest filled with danger, mystery, and discovery. The film has previously attracted international sales interest during its development and is positioned as a family-friendly adventure centered on courage, hope, and friendship.

According to the film’s official synopsis, Mo must uncover the mystery surrounding her origins while confronting the notorious pirate Peg Leg Olle and pursuing the legendary Blood Red Ruby of Doom. The story combines classic swashbuckling action with themes of identity and belonging, making it one of the more ambitious family animation projects currently in development.

The acquisition deals were negotiated by Mayank Jhalani on behalf of Viva Pictures, Jason Bressand for Treasure Trekkers, Florencia Gil for Space Cadet, and Gamze Celik for Pirate Mo and the Legend of the Red Ruby.

The additions further strengthen Viva Kids’ presence in the animated family entertainment market. With Treasure Trekkers, Space Cadet, and Pirate Mo and the Legend of the Red Ruby now joining its upcoming release slate, the distributor continues to expand its portfolio with projects based on established literary properties and original family-focused storytelling.
