he People Upstairs — Release Date: 3 December 2025. Directed by Ha Jung-woo, the South Korean comedy drama stars Ha Jung-woo, Gong Hyo-jin, Kim Dong-wook, and Lee Hanee in the lead roles. Produced under Ha Jung-woo’s direction, the film is an adaptation of Cesc Gay’s 2020 Spanish film The People Upstairs, which was itself based on his play Los vecinos de arriba.

Set in a Seoul apartment complex, the film follows two married couples who become acquainted when a noise complaint leads to an unexpected dinner invitation. Jeong-ah and Hyun-soo, the downstairs couple, are disturbed by the lively, often chaotic life of their upstairs neighbors, Mr. Kim and Soo-kyung. What begins as an evening to clear misunderstandings gradually turns into a night of revealing conversations, shifting dynamics, and surprising emotional confessions.

The story explores the subtle tensions of urban living and modern relationships through humor and awkward intimacy. Ha Jung-woo, who also stars as Mr. Kim, guides the film’s balance between comedic discomfort and heartfelt emotion. Gong Hyo-jin, Kim Dong-wook, and Lee Hanee bring depth and chemistry to the ensemble, reflecting the complex rhythms of married life and neighborly proximity.

Principal photography began on January 7, 2025, and concluded on February 8, 2025. The film had its world premiere in the Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere section at the 30th Busan International Film Festival on September 18, 2025. It later screened in the Special Gala section of the 10th London East Asian Film Festival on October 24, 2025, where it also competed in the festival’s main competition lineup. The People Upstairs is scheduled for theatrical release across South Korea on December 3, 2025.
