Released in cinemas on August 14, Awarapan 2 has completed its first week with a strong box-office result, giving the sequel a significant update as it enters its second weekend. The Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani starrer has crossed ₹160 crore worldwide, while its steady weekday collections show that audiences have continued visiting cinemas after the Independence Day holiday boost. The film’s performance now makes its second week an important measure of how long its theatrical momentum can last.

According to the latest trade figures, Awarapan 2 finished its first seven days with ₹113.50 crore in India net collections. Its India gross stood at around ₹135.37 crore, while its worldwide gross moved beyond ₹160 crore. The film crossed the ₹100 crore India net mark during its first week, giving it a strong domestic base before the second weekend.

The weekday trend is particularly important because Awarapan 2 opened immediately before the Independence Day holiday. The film collected ₹9.75 crore on its fifth day and ₹6.75 crore on its sixth day, before adding around ₹6 crore on Thursday. Although collections declined from the holiday period, the numbers remained substantial enough to show that the film was not relying entirely on its opening weekend.

The result is also a major career milestone for Emraan Hashmi. Awarapan 2 has become the highest-grossing solo film of Hashmi’s career, surpassing the performance of his previous solo releases. The achievement is notable because the actor has returned to a character associated with one of his earlier films and has now recorded his strongest solo theatrical result with the sequel.

The connection to the original Awarapan adds another layer to the box-office story. Released in 2007 and directed by Mohit Suri, the first film earned only ₹7.75 crore net in India during its theatrical run. Its songs, including “Tera Mera Rishta” and “To Phir Aao,” later helped it develop a loyal following and a cult reputation. Awarapan 2 therefore arrives nearly two decades later with an audience already familiar with the franchise.

The sequel brings Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit, with Disha Patani among the principal cast. Nitin Kakkar directed the new film, which was released during the Independence Day frame alongside Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947. Awarapan 2 has emerged as the stronger performer between the two Hindi releases during the period, giving it an advantageous position as it enters its second week.

Trade reports have placed the reported production budget at around ₹45 crore. While box-office gross cannot be treated as direct profit because theatrical revenue is divided among distributors, exhibitors and other stakeholders, the film’s first-week figures have placed it comfortably above its reported production cost and established it as a commercial success.

The film’s reception has also revived interest in the franchise beyond its financial performance. Producer Vishesh Bhatt recently revealed that Emraan Hashmi had initially been unsure about returning for a sequel, questioning whether another Awarapan story was necessary. That decision now looks justified based on the film’s early theatrical performance.

The second week will now provide a clearer picture of the film’s staying power. Awarapan 2 entered Friday with ₹113.50 crore net from its first week, and trade reports have pointed to the ₹120 crore domestic milestone as its next immediate target. With no major Hindi release competing for the same weekend, the sequel has an opportunity to retain screens and audiences.

Awarapan 2 has moved beyond its opening-weekend performance and established itself as a notable theatrical success. The ₹160 crore-plus worldwide milestone, combined with its strong first-week India total, has changed the conversation around the sequel. Its next challenge is straightforward: maintain enough audience interest through Week Two to turn a strong opening run into a sustained theatrical success.
