Emraan Hashmi’s comeback has arrived in a big way.
Awarapan 2 opened on August 14 and has maintained a strong upward trajectory through the Independence Day weekend, with each day showing a significant jump over the previous one. The first two days have already established strong momentum, while Sunday advance bookings indicate that the film could finish its opening weekend well above initial trade expectations.
The film opened on Thursday, August 14, Independence Day, with ₹21 crore net in India. The figure, confirmed by Bollywood Hungama, marks Emraan Hashmi’s biggest opening day as a solo lead. It also puts the sequel’s start into perspective when compared with the original Awarapan, which collected approximately ₹7.75 crore net during its entire India theatrical run in 2007. Awarapan 2 surpassed the original film’s lifetime collection on its opening day itself.
The momentum strengthened on Saturday. Awarapan 2 collected ₹33 crore net on Day 2, recording a substantial jump over its opening day. The rise indicates strong audience response and points to positive word of mouth helping the film through the extended holiday weekend.
Trade estimates had initially projected the film to collect around ₹75 crore net in its first three days. However, the strong Day 2 performance and Sunday advance bookings have pushed those expectations higher. More than 3.41 lakh tickets had already been booked for Sunday across 12,346 shows, with current trade estimates suggesting that the film could finish the three-day weekend above ₹85 crore net. The Sunday figure remains an estimate until final collections are reported.
The film has also maintained a clear lead over its major Hindi release competition this weekend, Batwara 1947, starring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. According to figures cited by NDTV, Awarapan 2 has been earning roughly twice as much as Batwara 1947 on a daily basis, giving the sequel a significant advantage at the Hindi box office.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi. The film returns to the dark action world established by the 2007 original, following Shivam through a story involving crime, redemption and sacrifice.

The original Awarapan developed a cult following over the years despite its modest theatrical performance. That history makes the sequel’s opening particularly notable, as the franchise has now turned its long-standing audience affection into a strong theatrical response.

Awarapan 2 also had a wide theatrical presence, running across more than 19,500 shows during its first two days and playing in 756 cities. Saturday occupancy stood at 52.6%, while Sunday advance bookings had already crossed ₹10 crore before the day’s shows began.

The final confirmed weekend figures will determine the exact size of the opening. Based on the first two days and the strength of Sunday advance bookings, however, Awarapan 2 has already moved beyond its initial expectations and is building one of the stronger Hindi openings of the Independence Day weekend.
