India Box Office: ‘Hanuman Ansh’ Rules a Seventh Weekend as New Releases Struggle to Break Through

Hanuman Ansh leads the India box office with ₹28.5 crore in its seventh weekend
September 21, 2026

The India box office weekend of September 18–20 told a story that has become familiar over the past two months: Hanuman Ansh remained at the top, posting numbers that most new releases would be happy to claim in their opening weekend, while everything around it competed for the remaining screen space and audience attention. Three new Hindi-language and Hollywood releases arrived this weekend — Daayra, VIBE and Resident Evil — but none could meaningfully challenge the films already commanding the market.

Hanuman Ansh collected ₹28.5 crore in its seventh weekend, a figure that would have sounded unlikely for a film made on a reported budget of approximately ₹2 crore when it quietly opened weeks ago. Its seventh-weekend breakdown tells the story clearly: ₹5 crore on Friday, ₹9.75 crore on Saturday and an extraordinary ₹13.75 crore on Sunday. Films in their seventh week are usually winding down. Hanuman Ansh is doing the opposite.

Its India net cumulative now stands at approximately ₹271.88 crore, with its worldwide gross approaching ₹330 crore. The devotional drama about Neem Karoli Baba has become one of the notable box-office stories of the year.

Mandaadi, the Tamil release, came in second with ₹18.25 crore for the weekend, a strong result that made it the most significant new arrival of the frame.

Mirzapur: The Movie, now in its third weekend, collected ₹12.25 crore, settling after its explosive first two weeks. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu, the film had already crossed ₹200 crore India net in its second week, while its worldwide gross is now well past ₹295 crore. It remains one of 2026’s biggest Hindi successes, although it is now playing behind Hanuman Ansh at the top of the chart.

Resident Evil, the Hollywood horror release, opened in fourth place with ₹9.50 crore, the strongest debut among the three new Hindi-language and Hollywood releases this weekend. The established franchise name and horror genre brought audiences to theatres.

VIBE, starring Kunal Kemmu and Preity Zinta, opened in fifth place with ₹7.45 crore. The film showed steady growth across the weekend, collecting ₹1.70 crore on Friday and ₹2.75 crore on Saturday before improving further on Sunday. It posted a respectable opening weekend, though the initial numbers do not indicate a breakout run at this stage.

Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar collected ₹5.31 crore in sixth place, while Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, now deep into its run, held seventh place with ₹5.25 crore. The Malayalam film continues to find audiences weeks after its release.

Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar and starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, opened in eighth place with ₹4.50 crore. The film collected ₹1 crore on Friday before improving to ₹1.60 crore on Saturday and ₹1.75 crore on Sunday, giving it a slow start despite its cast and director.

Citylights followed in ninth place with ₹3.02 crore, while Irumudi, now well into its theatrical run, held tenth place with ₹2.80 crore.

The weekend continued to underline the strength of Hanuman Ansh, which remains capable of generating substantial business deep into its theatrical run. Its ₹13.75 crore Sunday is particularly notable for a film in its seventh week, while the new releases struggled to make a significant impact on the top end of the chart.
