India Box Office: ‘Vvan’ Leads a Packed Weekend as ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Surprises in Second

The India box office for the weekend of September 25 to 27 brought a mixed and competitive chart, with a new animated release at the top, a strong re-release performance in second place and Hanuman Ansh continuing its extraordinary run in third for an eighth consecutive weekend.

Vvan: Force of the Forest, the new animated Telugu film, topped the chart with ₹33.60 crore, recording the biggest opening of the frame. The film drew strong family audiences across Telugu-speaking markets and beyond, establishing itself as the No. 1 film of the weekend.

The biggest surprise of the weekend came in second place with Avengers: Endgame Encore, the special re-release of Marvel Studios’ 2019 blockbuster. The film collected ₹22.45 crore over the weekend, a notable result for a movie that is already seven years old and widely available on streaming platforms. The re-release was timed around the upcoming December release of Avengers: Doomsday, adding a promotional element to its theatrical return.

The re-release was also accompanied by select IMAX screenings and a new epilogue scene, which helped drive demand for premium-format screenings. Its second-place finish puts the performance among the weekend’s notable theatrical developments, particularly given that it was competing against several new releases.

Hanuman Ansh held its ground in third place, collecting ₹18.85 crore in its eighth consecutive weekend. The film recorded ₹3.80 crore on Friday, ₹6.50 crore on Saturday and ₹8.55 crore on Sunday, continuing its steady theatrical run deep into its second month.

The film’s continued performance remains notable given its long run and its comparatively small production scale. Hanuman Ansh has now accumulated well over ₹290 crore in India net, while its worldwide gross is closing in on ₹350 crore, according to the supplied figures.

Meesaya Murukku 2, the Tamil musical comedy sequel, opened in fourth place with ₹13.95 crore. The film delivered a strong debut for the franchise, which has built a devoted following since the first film’s release in 2017. Sivakarthikeyan’s fan following in Tamil Nadu contributed to the early numbers, while word of mouth through the weekend appeared positive.

Mandaadi slipped to fifth place in its second weekend, collecting ₹6.68 crore. The film saw a natural correction following its strong debut the previous week, while its India total has now crossed ₹25 crore.

Mirzapur: The Movie settled into sixth place with ₹4.25 crore in its fourth weekend. The film’s overall India net has now crossed ₹230 crore, extending the theatrical run of a franchise that established its identity on streaming before bringing its characters to the big screen.

The new Malayalam release Dorothy opened in seventh place with ₹3.55 crore. The film delivered a measured but solid debut in a competitive marketplace, placing ahead of two other titles that were already in their second weekends.

Heart of the Beast, the Brad Pitt-led dog drama, collected ₹3.50 crore in its second weekend to finish eighth. The film maintained a decent hold as word of mouth continued to build among adult audiences.

Resident Evil held ninth place with ₹3.26 crore in its second weekend. The horror film remained in the Top 10 despite the arrival of several new releases during the weekend.

Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar rounded out the Top 10 with ₹2.44 crore, continuing to serve its regional audience steadily. VIBE, meanwhile, added ₹2.30 crore in its second weekend, a decline that reflects the film settling into its theatrical run after a modest opening.

The weekend as a whole presented a diverse picture of the Indian theatrical market, with a new regional animated film taking the top position, a major franchise re-release demonstrating the continuing appetite for theatrical events, and Hanuman Ansh maintaining its momentum for an eighth consecutive weekend.

The market is set for another significant change with Drishyam: The Conclusion arriving on October 2, putting another major title into the theatrical mix as the October release calendar gets underway.
