Hollywood Nears All-Time India Box Office Record With ₹1,424 Crore In Seven Months

Hollywood India Box Office 2026: ₹1,424 Crore In Seven Months
August 31, 2026

Hollywood films have already earned ₹1,424 crore at the Indian box office in the first seven months of 2026, leaving the industry just ₹171 crore short of its all-time annual record of ₹1,595 crore, set in 2019. With five months still remaining in the year, 2026 now has a genuine chance of becoming Hollywood’s biggest year ever at the Indian box office.

The scale of the achievement becomes clearer when the two figures are placed together. Hollywood has already reached nearly 90% of its 2019 annual total by the end of July. The surge also points to a wider change in what Indian audiences are choosing to watch in theatres, with international films taking a significantly larger share of the market.

At the centre of that change is Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Tom Holland-led film has become the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India, overtaking James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water. It also became the first Hollywood film to cross the ₹500 crore gross mark in the country. Ormax Media’s July report projects its eventual collection at ₹630 crore, including future collections, while the latest reported India gross has reached ₹588.12 crore. Its record-breaking run has given Hollywood an unusually powerful boost in 2026.

The second major force is Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which has collected ₹167.80 crore in India. The epic has become Nolan’s biggest theatrical success in the country, surpassing Oppenheimer. Its performance is significant because it shows that Hollywood’s biggest Indian successes in 2026 are not limited to superhero franchises. A large-scale original event film has also managed to attract audiences in substantial numbers.

Then comes Obsession, one of the year’s biggest surprises. The thriller has collected ₹88.85 crore in India, demonstrating that audiences are willing to support films without the same level of franchise recognition as Spider-Man. Its performance adds another layer to Hollywood’s record-setting year and highlights the impact of strong word of mouth on unexpected theatrical successes.

The range continues with Project Hail Mary, which has earned ₹75.21 crore, and Michael, the musical biopic centred on Michael Jackson, with ₹70.76 crore. Their performances show that science fiction and music-driven biographical cinema can attract sizeable audiences alongside superhero and event films. This variety is one of the clearest signs that Hollywood’s surge in India is broader than the performance of a single blockbuster.

Other titles have also contributed to the total. The Devil Wears Prada 2 has collected ₹30.21 crore, while Lee Cronin’s The Mummy has earned ₹25.32 crore. Evil Dead Burn has also added to Hollywood’s overall performance, strengthening the picture across genres. Together, these releases demonstrate how several films, rather than one title alone, have helped Hollywood reach such a substantial cumulative total.

The larger market shift may be even more significant. International films are expected to account for around 20–25% of India’s total box office in 2026, compared with the previous high of 15% in 2019. Ormax Media has also noted that international films accounted for a 17% share during the first seven months of the year. The growing share suggests that global cinema is becoming an increasingly important part of India’s theatrical business.

Hollywood now needs only ₹171 crore to surpass its 2019 record. After reaching ₹1,424 crore in just seven months, the target is no longer distant. The remaining months will determine whether 2026 simply becomes one of Hollywood’s strongest years in India or sets a new benchmark for international cinema in the country.
