Set in the 1980s in an isolated Spanish village, the narrative centers on Miguel and Alicia, a couple emotionally fractured by the death of their young son, Gabriel. Their fragile existence is unsettled by the arrival of a French family — Tomás, a Spanish immigrant returning to the region; his pregnant wife Marie; and their son Philippe. What begins as a seemingly ordinary relocation soon develops into a chain of unsettling encounters that disturb the social and emotional equilibrium of the village.

As Miguel and Alicia cross paths with Philippe, the interactions trigger a sequence of increasingly dark and ambiguous events. The rural setting, marked by silence, distance, and long-buried tensions, frames the psychological undercurrents that shape the story. The film situates personal grief alongside communal suspicion, exploring how trauma and displacement reverberate within a tightly knit environment.

Produced by La Canica Films and Mother Superior Films, with participation from RTVE and Prime Video, the film was shot by cinematographer Javier Salmones in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio using the Alexa 35 camera system and Arri/Zeiss Master Anamorphic lenses. Principal photography took place in Zaragoza, Los Monegros — including areas near Farlete and Monegrillo — and in the Community of Madrid, emphasizing expansive rural landscapes and stark terrain.

The Devil Within is scheduled for theatrical release in Spain on March 6, 2026.
