Vicky Krieps, a German-Luxembourg actress who also starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2017 film Phantom Thread, and George MacKay, who is popularly known for his role in Sam Mendes’ 1917, have joined the Ocean’s Eleven prequel. Omar Sy, the French star of Netflix’s Lupin, is also set to join the cast. The Walking Dead star Lauren Ridloff and British actor Jack Holden have also been cast in the comedic heist thriller. The international cast already includes Bradley Cooper, Margot Robbie, Monica Barbaro, and Josh Gad.
In a recent interview, Margot Robbie said: “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents,” Robbie teased during a sizzle reel of Warner Bros.’ 2027 slate at CinemaCon. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”
The untitled Warner Bros. Ocean’s Eleven prequel is set to be directed and written by Bradley Cooper, who is also starring in and producing the film alongside Margot Robbie, who is producing via her LuckyChap banner. Tom Ackerley is also one of the producers. The movie is expected to begin shooting in late July in Paris before moving to the south of France.
Warner Bros. launched the current Ocean’s franchise with Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 film Ocean’s Eleven. It soon became a trilogy starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Matt Damon. Ocean’s Eleven was a remake of the studio’s 1961 film Ocean’s 11, which starred Frank Sinatra.
The Ocean’s movies center on mastermind Danny Ocean and his crew pulling off elaborate theft missions around the world. George Clooney portrayed Danny Ocean in the films directed by Steven Soderbergh. However, in this prequel, Clooney and company will not be returning.
The upcoming prequel is a period piece set during the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix, with Robbie and Cooper expected to play Danny Ocean’s parents. Reportedly, Wagner Moura is playing the villain in this installment.
MacKay is popularly known for playing Curly in 2003’s Peter Pan. His other acting credits include How I Live Now, 1917, Captain Fantastic, & Sons, Sign Language, Rose of Nevada, I Came By, The Beast, and Munich: The Edge of War.
Krieps is known for her work in German and French television and films over the years. She is popularly known in Hollywood for her role in Phantom Thread, in which she starred opposite Daniel Day-Lewis. Krieps won the Un Certain Regard Best Performance Prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
Sy is in negotiations to join the cast and is popularly known for Netflix’s Lupin. He is also known for The Intouchables, Jurassic World, X-Men: Days of Future Past, French Lover, Shadow Force, Out of Control, and The Killer.
Lauren Ridloff is best known for her Broadway debut in Children of a Lesser God, as well as for The Walking Dead and Marvel’s Eternals. Holden is also known for his stage work in Cruise and Kenrex: A True Crime Thriller, with credits including Ten Percent and The Levelling.
The movie is set to release on June 25, 2027. The release date has been announced by Warner Bros. The previous draft of the screenplay was written by Carrie Solomon.
