After months of speculation surrounding Ranveer Singh‘s next project, fresh reports suggest that the Dhurandhar star is set to begin filming Pralay later this year in Australia. The ambitious post-apocalyptic thriller has been one of the most talked-about projects in development, with the actor reportedly already beginning preparations for the physically demanding role.
Ranveer Singh is all set to begin work on Pralay later this year. Marking Bollywood’s entry into the large-scale post-apocalyptic zombie genre, the film has remained a hot topic of discussion for quite some time. According to the latest reports, Ranveer is expected to begin filming in Australia in September, with preparations for the project already underway.
The actor is reportedly set to travel to Australia to begin shooting for Jay Mehta’s directorial venture in September, according to a report by Pinkvilla. The report further states that production work has already commenced in Australia as the makers prepare for the film’s large-scale shoot.
A source was quoted as saying, “Ranveer will start shooting for the Jay Mehta directorial in the second half of 2026. The shoot is planned in Australia, and he has already kick-started prep. This is a film that requires intense physical and emotional preparation, given the scale and genre.”
Pralay is set in a post-apocalyptic world and imagines a dystopian Mumbai devastated by a zombie outbreak, following a married couple struggling to survive in the chaos. According to reports, the film is being mounted on a budget of around ₹300 crore, making it one of the most expensive standalone projects of Ranveer Singh’s career.
While Bollywood has explored the zombie genre before with films such as Go Goa Gone, Pralay appears to be taking a very different approach. Instead of blending horror with comedy, the film is reportedly being developed as a large-scale survival thriller with an emphasis on world-building, action, and visual spectacle.
A major portion of the film is expected to be shot in Australia, where the production will reportedly work with experienced international technicians. The project is also expected to rely heavily on visual effects to recreate its post-apocalyptic setting.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter India, Mehta plans to “reimagine Mumbai in The Hunger Games-style setup” for the film, with the makers aiming to recreate a devastated version of the city. Large sections of Mumbai are expected to be digitally aged to give them an abandoned, dystopian look.
The publication also reported that Jai Mehta and his team are actively working on the screenplay, visual detailing, and the larger zombie universe. Ranveer Singh is also said to be involved in creative discussions on a day-to-day basis as the project continues to take shape.
The screenplay has been written by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, with Pralay being co-produced by Ranveer Singh’s production banner Ma Kasam Films, alongside Hansal Mehta, Sameer Nair, and Sahil Saigal.
Speaking about the project, Jay Mehta previously told Variety India, “It’s the kind of film that India hasn’t made yet, the kind of film that India hasn’t seen before.”
Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh has also been in the headlines following reports surrounding his exit from Don 3. While speculation over the project continues, the actor has chosen not to comment publicly on the matter. According to trade reports, Ranveer has decided to focus on his work and is not expected to address the Don 3 controversy or participate in media interactions for the time being.
