Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that another Deadpool film is officially moving forward at Marvel Studios, providing the biggest update the franchise has received in months. Speaking at Fanatics Fest 2026 in New York City, the actor revealed that the Merc with a Mouth will return, although details about the project remain under wraps.
The announcement marks the first concrete confirmation of a new Deadpool installment since the success of Deadpool & Wolverine. While Marvel Studios has yet to announce a title, release date, or cast, Reynolds’ comments indicate that development is actively underway.
Earlier this year, Reynolds hinted that the next chapter could take a different creative direction, suggesting that Deadpool may not remain the central focus of future stories.
“I don’t think I’m ever going to center him again. He’s a supporting character. He’s a guy that’s great in a group.”
That remark received little attention at the time, but it now appears to offer insight into Marvel’s long-term plans for the character. At Fanatics Fest, Reynolds expanded on those thoughts, revealing that there are still aspects of the comics he hopes to bring to the screen.
“There’s a few really deep cuts I think are missing from the movies,” he said before adding, “there eventually will be another Deadpool.”
Although many fans have referred to the project as Deadpool 4, Marvel Studios has not officially announced a title. It also remains unclear whether the film will serve as a direct sequel or become part of a larger ensemble story within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speculation surrounding the project has continued to grow in recent months. Several reports have suggested that the new film could feature multiple X-Men characters as Marvel continues integrating the mutant franchise into the MCU following its acquisition of 20th Century Fox. While previous Deadpool films featured characters such as Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Yukio, Cable, and Juggernaut, a future installment could bring Wade Wilson into much closer contact with Marvel’s broader X-Men universe. However, none of these reports have been officially confirmed.
Reynolds has also been linked to Avengers: Doomsday, with various reports claiming Wade Wilson could appear alongside heroes including Captain America, Thor, the Fantastic Four, Shang-Chi, and the New Avengers. Those reports remain speculative, and neither Marvel Studios nor Reynolds has confirmed the character’s involvement.
The confirmation carries added significance given Reynolds’ long history with the franchise. The actor spent nearly a decade trying to convince studios to make an R-rated Deadpool film before finally succeeding in 2016. Since then, he has remained deeply involved in shaping the character, not only as its star but also as a creative producer who has helped define the franchise’s distinctive humor and tone. Outside of acting, Reynolds has built a successful business portfolio that includes Aviation Gin, Mint Mobile, and co-ownership of Welsh football club Wrexham AFC.
For now, Marvel Studios has not revealed a release window, director, or additional cast members for the next Deadpool film. But with Reynolds himself confirming that another movie is on the way—and teasing that there are still “deep cuts” left to explore—fans finally have official confirmation that the Merc with a Mouth will return to theaters.
