Oscar-nominated German actress Sandra Hüller is set to appear in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday in a cameo role. Her character is being kept under wraps, and Marvel has not publicly confirmed the casting or revealed details about the part.
News of Hüller’s reported involvement emerged on October 23, following several weeks of speculation after her name appeared on the British Stunt Register. Her role is understood to be a cameo, although neither the character she will play nor the extent of her appearance has been disclosed.
Several theories have emerged among fans about how Hüller might fit into the film’s story. One possibility links her character to Doctor Doom, potentially as his mother. Another theory suggests that she could be one of the Latverian Witches or a member of a group of hooded enchantresses. Marvel has not confirmed any of these possibilities, and they remain speculation rather than official casting details.
Interest in the Latverian Witches has also been fuelled by Marvel’s presentation of colour-coded Latverian robes at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. However, the significance of those costumes in relation to Hüller’s reported appearance remains unknown.
The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who are in post-production ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on December 18. Much of the plot remains undisclosed, but the story is expected to bring together superheroes from different timelines to confront Doctor Doom, a powerful adversary described as a sorcerer-scientist capable of threatening the universe.
Robert Downey Jr. takes on the role of Doom, also known as Victor von Doom, marking a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a villainous role after previously portraying Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man. Chris Evans is also returning as Steve Rogers. Evans previously appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, a character he played in the earlier Fantastic Four films.
The ensemble cast includes several prominent Marvel actors, among them Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston and Channing Tatum. The film also draws performers from recent Marvel productions such as Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, alongside actors associated with the Thor and original X-Men films.
The scale of the ensemble makes Hüller’s reported cameo another point of interest as Marvel continues to bring together characters and performers from different corners of its cinematic universe. However, without confirmation of her character, it remains unclear how her appearance will connect to Doom’s storyline or the film’s broader narrative.
Hüller received her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in 2024 for her performance in Anatomy of a Fall, the courtroom drama that won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The same year, she starred in The Zone of Interest, which received widespread awards recognition and won two Academy Awards, including Best International Feature Film. Her work in both films brought her increased international attention and established her as one of the most acclaimed European performers of recent years.
In 2026, Hüller has continued to expand her international film profile. She appeared in Project Hail Mary, in which she plays the character who recruits Ryan Gosling’s protagonist for a mission to save the planet. The film also features a karaoke sequence in which Hüller performs Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times”, a song she reportedly advocated for during production.
Her other major feature projects this year include Rose, Fatherland and Digger. She was also recently seen playing Tom Cruise’s sister in Digger. These projects have placed her in several prominent releases during the current awards season, making her reported appearance in a major Marvel production a further departure into a different part of the international film industry.
Project Hail Mary has also brought another potential Marvel connection into the conversation. Gosling has been announced for a Marvel superhero role as Ghost Rider, although his reported involvement and Hüller’s cameo do not, by themselves, establish any connection between their characters in Avengers: Doomsday.
For now, Hüller’s role remains a mystery. With Avengers: Doomsday scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 18, speculation about a possible connection to Doctor Doom, his family or the Latverian Witches is likely to continue. Until Marvel confirms further details, the only reported information about Hüller’s part is that it will be a cameo in one of the studio’s most anticipated upcoming releases.
