Spider-Man: Brand New Day has capped off an extraordinary first seven days in theaters by setting a series of box office milestones that place it among the biggest releases the industry has ever seen. In just one week, Tom Holland’s fourth outing as Peter Parker has become the highest-grossing film of 2026, crossed the $1 billion mark at record speed and established a new benchmark for seven-day domestic box office performance.
The record-breaking run began with an unprecedented opening weekend. Brand New Day earned $360 million domestically during its first three days, surpassing Avengers: Endgame‘s long-standing $357.1 million record to claim the biggest domestic opening weekend in box office history. Internationally, the film launched to $932 million worldwide, making it the second-largest global debut ever, behind only Endgame‘s $1.223 billion opening in 2019.
Celebrating the achievement, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman said, “Wow. 360 million thank-yous to all the filmmakers, actors, producers, and to my colleagues at Sony. Records are made to be broken, but we will take great pride in this one, for as long as we hold it.”
The momentum continued well beyond opening weekend. On Monday, the film collected $47 million domestically, setting a new all-time Monday record and surpassing Black Panther‘s previous benchmark of $40 million. Tuesday followed with another $42 million, enough to establish the highest-grossing Tuesday ever at the North American box office, overtaking Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s $39 million. By its fourth day in release, Brand New Day had already crossed $400 million domestically, becoming the fastest film in history to reach that milestone.
Premium formats also played an important role in the film’s performance. Brand New Day set new opening weekend records across several premium exhibition platforms, generating $10 million domestically in Dolby Cinema, $17 million globally in 4DX, and $14.4 million worldwide in ScreenX. The results underline the growing importance of premium-format screenings, which continue to drive higher per-screen averages for major event films.
The worldwide momentum remained equally impressive. Brand New Day crossed the $1 billion mark after only six days in release, making it the second-fastest film in history to reach the milestone behind only Avengers: Endgame. It also became the highest-grossing film released in 2026 in less than a week, joining Toy Story 5, Michael, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie among this year’s billion-dollar global hits.
The latest installment also continues the remarkable commercial growth of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise. Spider-Man: Homecoming opened to $117 million domestically before finishing with $880 million worldwide. Spider-Man: Far From Home debuted with $92 million and ultimately earned $1.13 billion globally. Spider-Man: No Way Home raised the bar again with a $260 million domestic opening and a final worldwide total of $1.9 billion. Brand New Day has now eclipsed all three previous entries in terms of opening weekend performance, further strengthening Spider-Man’s position as one of Hollywood’s most valuable theatrical franchises.
Its opening weekend has also reinforced Marvel’s long-standing dominance at the domestic box office. Brand New Day and Avengers: Endgame remain the only two films to have crossed the $300 million mark during a single opening weekend, while Spider-Man: No Way Home and Avengers: Infinity War complete the list of the four biggest domestic debuts ever recorded.
The film has also enjoyed exceptional success overseas, with international markets contributing more than $600 million during its first week. China leads all overseas territories with $132.9 million, followed by the United Kingdom ($55.6 million), Mexico ($43.6 million), India ($35.4 million) and France ($31.4 million). Other major markets include South Korea ($28 million), Brazil ($27.7 million), Australia ($23.4 million) and Germany ($22.5 million), underscoring Spider-Man’s enduring popularity across global audiences.
Elsewhere at the global box office, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has continued its remarkable theatrical run, surpassing $911 million after three weekends and remaining on course to become the director’s highest-grossing film. Meanwhile, Marvel’s attention will soon shift to Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to build on the momentum generated by Brand New Day when it arrives later this year.
After just seven days in theaters, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has established a new benchmark for domestic first-week box office performance while becoming only the second film in history to cross $1 billion worldwide in less than a week. Combined with record-breaking weekday grosses, the biggest domestic opening weekend ever and exceptional international business, the film has delivered one of the most dominant opening weeks the global box office has ever seen.
