Spider-Man: Brand New Day delivered the biggest Hollywood opening weekend in Indian box office history with an extraordinary ₹197.35 crore, while Vijay’s Jana Nayagan retained second place and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its impressive theatrical run. Together, the top releases demonstrated the broad appeal of Hollywood spectacles, Tamil cinema and premium theatrical experiences across the country.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day comfortably dominated multiplexes across India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, leaving limited room for competing releases. The Marvel blockbuster benefited from exceptional pre-release momentum, driven by strong reviews, a 90% Rotten Tomatoes critics score, and widespread social media buzz surrounding Sadie Sink’s MCU debut and early audience reactions. That anticipation translated into record-breaking ticket sales, giving the film the biggest opening weekend ever recorded for a Hollywood release in India.

Holding firmly in second place was Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which collected ₹22.05 crore over the weekend. The actor’s final film before entering politics continues to attract strong audiences, particularly across Tamil Nadu and Telugu-speaking markets. Despite the arrival of one of the year’s biggest global blockbusters, the film maintained a solid theatrical presence and remains among the strongest-performing Indian releases of 2026.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its remarkable run by earning ₹14.6 crore in its third weekend to secure third place. The epic has now crossed the ₹150 crore mark in India, driven by sustained audience interest, premium-format demand and strong word of mouth. Even with Spider-Man: Brand New Day occupying a significant share of screens, Nolan’s latest film demonstrated impressive staying power, reinforcing its position as one of the biggest Hollywood successes of the year in the Indian market.

Among the remaining holdovers, Dhamaal 4 added ₹5.15 crore in its fourth weekend, pushing its domestic total beyond ₹140 crore. The comedy has emerged as one of Bollywood’s notable commercial successes this year and continues to attract audiences despite entering the later stages of its theatrical run.

The weekend’s notable new Indian release was the Malayalam psychological thriller Unmadham, directed by Kiran Das and starring Kunchacko Boban. The film opened with ₹2.27 crore, delivering a respectable debut despite intense competition for screens from Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Several smaller regional and independent releases completed the weekend chart, though none crossed the ₹1 crore mark. Titles including Mamachya Govyala Jauya, Newton’s 3rd Law, Kankaan De Ohle, Maaran, Karmakhya, The Bose Files: Sach Ya Sazish, and Dil Deewana Ho Gaya recorded modest collections as the marketplace remained overwhelmingly concentrated around the top releases.

The weekend ultimately underscored the continued strength of event cinema in India.
