‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ has crossed ₹152 crore in India gross, extending its strong theatrical run and moving closer to Malayalam cinema’s biggest worldwide milestones. The Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju starrer, directed by Girish A.D., has reached ₹275.15 crore worldwide, including ₹123 crore from overseas markets, according to the latest reported figures. The latest figures keep the film in second place among Malayalam cinema’s highest-grossing films, behind ‘Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra’.
Released on August 21 during the Onam season, the Malayalam romantic comedy has developed into one of the period’s biggest theatrical successes. Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju lead the cast, with Girish A.D. directing the film. Its family-friendly appeal and steady audience response have helped it remain competitive well beyond its opening week, when many films typically begin to see a sharper decline.
The India performance has been particularly strong. After 19 days, the film’s India net collection stands at ₹130.25 crore, while its gross has reached ₹152.15 crore. The distinction is important because the two figures measure the same market differently. Kerala has remained the film’s strongest territory, contributing a major share of its domestic business and demonstrating how strongly the Onam release connected with local audiences.
The overseas market has also played an important role in the film’s rise. Its ₹123 crore overseas gross has pushed the worldwide total considerably higher than its domestic performance alone could have managed. The Tamil and Telugu versions have further widened its reach beyond Malayalam-speaking audiences. While their contribution may be smaller than the core Malayalam business, the additional language versions have given the film access to viewers in markets where a Malayalam-only release would naturally have had a narrower audience.
The latest ranking makes the achievement particularly significant. ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ has moved past ‘L2: Empuraan’, which had a reported worldwide gross of ₹268.23 crore, to become the second-highest-grossing Malayalam film. Ahead of it is ‘Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra’ at approximately ₹305.17 crore worldwide. That leaves a gap of about ₹30 crore, meaning the current chase is substantial but not impossible if the film maintains its theatrical hold.
Its third-week performance remains encouraging. On Day 19, the film earned ₹3.15 crore in India net, a 14.9% decline from the previous day’s ₹3.70 crore. The ability to generate several crores after nearly three weeks points to sustained demand. Earlier, its second week added ₹49.85 crore in India net, providing a strong base for the current phase of its run.
The Onam release gave the film an early advantage, but timing alone does not explain its continued performance. Family audiences have remained important, while word of mouth has helped the film stay visible during weekdays. Nivin Pauly has also described it as his biggest hit, crediting Girish A.D.’s storytelling and family audiences for the response. Its festival timing, accessible storytelling and multiple language versions have further strengthened its reach.
For Malayalam cinema, the larger significance lies in how quickly ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ has climbed the worldwide rankings. It has moved beyond an established blockbuster and is now competing with the industry’s most successful recent releases. Its performance also shows how a film can build substantial business through sustained audience interest rather than relying solely on a huge opening.
The next stage will depend on how well the film holds through the coming weekdays and weekends. A further climb toward the ₹300 crore worldwide range is within sight, while the remaining distance to ‘Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra’ will test its staying power. For now, ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ has already secured a notable place in Malayalam box-office history, with its final position still to be decided by the strength of its remaining theatrical run.
