The Devil Wears Prada 2 has made a strong and stylish entry at the Indian box office, emerging as the biggest Hollywood opener of 2026 so far. The sequel, directed by David Frankel, has not only capitalized on nostalgia from the 2006 original but has also managed to stand out in a crowded release window filled with high-profile titles.

According to early trade estimates, The Devil Wears Prada 2 registered a solid start with ₹1.7 crore net from paid previews, followed by ₹3.8 crore net on its first official day. This brings its total opening-day collection in India to ₹5.5 crore net, translating to approximately ₹6.49 crore gross including GST. The performance is particularly noteworthy given the competition from both Hollywood and domestic releases currently playing in theatres.

With this opening, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has edged past its closest rival, Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic, which opened at ₹5.4 crore net (including previews). The Anne Hathaway-led film now holds the record for the biggest Hollywood opening in India in 2026, surpassing other recent releases such as Project Hail Mary (₹2.25 crore), The Mummy (₹1.7 crore), and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (₹90 lakh).

The trend indicates strong initial audience interest, particularly driven by urban multiplexes. The film’s performance in paid previews hinted at early buzz, and the growth on day one suggests that footfalls are likely to increase further over the opening weekend. Given its positioning as a stylish, female-led sequel with a well-established brand value, the film is expected to benefit from positive word-of-mouth in the coming days.

Globally, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has also opened on a strong note. The film collected approximately $10 million from Thursday previews in the United States, marking one of the strongest preview performances for a female-led film in recent years. On Friday, including preview figures, it earned $33 million across 4,150 theatres in the U.S., placing it among the top-performing releases currently in the market.

The film’s global rollout has been equally impressive. Having opened initially in 35 international markets and later expanding to 45 territories, it has already grossed $50.5 million worldwide in its early days. Of this, $40.5 million has come from overseas markets within just the first two days, reflecting strong international appeal.

Several territories have reported standout performances, with the film securing the number one spot or emerging as the top non-local release in countries such as Brazil, Italy, Korea, Australia, and multiple regions across the Middle East and Asia. This widespread acceptance highlights the film’s cross-market appeal and the enduring popularity of its core characters and narrative world.

The sequel reunites a celebrated ensemble cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. Building on the legacy of the original film, which grossed over $326 million worldwide and became a cultural touchstone, the sequel continues the story with a renewed focus on shifting industry dynamics and character arcs.

Industry projections suggest that the film could reach close to $180 million worldwide over its opening weekend, backed by strong advance bookings and favorable trends in key international markets. With a reported production budget of around $100 million, the film is already on a promising trajectory toward profitability.

As the opening weekend unfolds, all eyes will be on whether the film can sustain its momentum and convert its strong start into long-term box office success. For now, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has firmly positioned itself at the top of the Hollywood box office race in India for 2026, setting the stage for what could be a successful theatrical run both domestically and worldwide.
