‘Grown Ups 3’ Starts Production as Adam Sandler Reunites Original Cast

August 7, 2026

Production is officially underway on Grown Ups 3, with Adam Sandler marking the occasion by sharing the first behind-the-scenes photo of the franchise’s original cast reuniting more than a decade after the release of Grown Ups 2. Netflix confirmed in May that the long-awaited third installment was moving forward, with Kyle Newacheck directing from a screenplay by Adam Sandler, Tim Herlihy, and Fred Wolf. Principal photography is now underway in New Jersey and is expected to continue through mid-October, with the film currently slated for release in 2027.

Sandler announced the start of filming on Instagram with a cast photo captioned, “We missed you!” The image reunited many of the franchise’s familiar faces, including Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek Pinault, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, Bailee Madison, Deon Cole, and Jackie Sandler, giving fans their first behind-the-scenes look at the ensemble since the 2013 sequel.

According to the official logline, the story follows the longtime friends, now in their 60s, as they embark on a trip across Europe to scatter the ashes of a close friend. Joined by their wives, they set out on what is described as their “ultimate adventure,” discovering that age has done little to diminish their appetite for chaos and comedy.

The film sees Sandler reprise his role as Lenny Feder, alongside Kevin James as Eric Lamonsoff, Chris Rock as Kurt McKenzie, David Spade as Marcus Higgins, and Rob Schneider as Rob Hilliard, who returns after sitting out Grown Ups 2. Also back are Salma Hayek Pinault as Roxanne Chase-Feder, Maya Rudolph as Deanne McKenzie, and Maria Bello as Sally Lamonsoff, reuniting the core group and their on-screen families.

Several supporting cast members are also returning, including Shaquille O’Neal, Nick Swardson, Colin Quinn, and Tim Meadows. Sandler’s wife Jackie Sandler and daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler will reprise their previous appearances, while Jake Goldberg and Alexys Nycole Sanchez return as Lenny’s children. The sequel also expands its ensemble with Deon Cole, Bailee Madison, and Julie Bowen, although their roles have not yet been revealed.

The first two Grown Ups films were directed by Dennis Dugan and released theatrically by Sony’s Columbia Pictures. The original 2010 comedy grossed approximately $272 million worldwide, while Grown Ups 2 followed with around $247 million globally. The third installment marks another chapter in Sandler’s long-running partnership with Netflix, where he has spent more than a decade producing and starring in films under an exclusive production agreement.

Newacheck, who previously collaborated with Sandler on Murder Mystery and Happy Gilmore 2, directs the sequel. Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, and Tim Herlihy serve as producers, while Kevin Grady and Judit Maull are executive producers.

The production also marks the franchise’s first film since the passing of Cameron Boyce in 2019. Boyce portrayed Keithie Feder, Lenny’s son, in the first two films. It has not yet been revealed how the screenplay will address the character’s absence.

With cameras now rolling in New Jersey and much of the original ensemble returning, Grown Ups 3 marks the long-awaited return of one of Adam Sandler’s best-known comedy franchises. More details, including a specific release date and additional casting information, are expected as production continues.
